Body Armor Rock Steps

Where do those actually mount to though. The frame or to the body? For ultra strength, the right answer is ALWAYS the frame. If they do bolt up to frame indeed, I will pick some up, if not, i'm going to have to pass. Though I do applaud the product for looks and form!

 

They mount to THE BODY, but do come with some very beefy brackets and all GRADE 8 hardware. I myself thought the same but really have no need for rock sliders as my 4x4 off roading is not as extreme as some.

 

One of my body bolt up locations had a bolt shear off inside the mounting point in it when it was new, never able to pull it out so at this point I much rather prefer frame, not only that, it is MUCH MUCH more rigid for the type of wheeling I do!

Too bad it's to the body, they do look damn good.

 

They look good but, with them mounting to the body I'd be worried about using them for a jacking point. I don't do any serious off roading but, if I need to, I want to be able to have a sturdy jacking location. I still might pick up a pair. I have an ACLB though; I know sliders for a DCSB fit an ACLB and wonder if these would work on an ACLB. Hmmm...

 

I still don't have mine. ETA Tuesday. Install Thursday. Sigh.

 

Installed my Fab Fours winch bumper on my 13 Taco TX last weekend, ordered my Body Armor rock rails 10 minutes ago. We'll see how it looks. Pictures to come.

Waiting on snow to melt to put them on in my drive way...

Question--should I just use jacks and braces to put them on, or wait for my brother to visit in March to help with them?

Have any of you done the install solo? They are pretty freakin' heavy...

 

Replacement rails arrived in worse condition than the first ones. They're issuing me a refund since they clearly can't get the things to me in one piece.

I called the manufacturer. The part is on backorder until March directly from them.

CARID has a couple sets in the midwest somewhere, but freight is through the roof.

So... this is going well.

 

Ask carid to do price match. That's what they did for me. Shipping was $0

 

Thats not all that cheap, true sliders aren't that far off for price point.

And will last the life of the truck.

I was initially intrigue by these to replace my N-Fabs but unfortunately, it won't be much more of an upgrade. Mounting points to the body versus frame really makes this nothing more than beefed up steps. I might as well look into sliders with welded top plates for a little more cost.

 

Sigh. I'll have to give it a try, I guess.

$300 is pretty damned cheap. Your Pelfreys are double the cost before installation, have to be welded on, and really don't look that great. Besides, I'd like to have the parts on my truck before I die of old age, and given Pelfreybilt's legendary lead times, that might not be an option.

 

Glad I held off on these. Seems like the quality is decent once you get them, and they look really good mounted. But customer service and actually getting them in good condition is an issue. Sub'd for continued updates and hopefully more feedback on quality.

 

Mine arrived yesterday. Only a scratch on one end. Did install by myself. It wasn't hard at all. Just used some stands to hold it up. I'll post pictures later.

 

Awesome. I'm still waiting on the snow to melt out of my driveway to put them on. Stupid white stuff, lol...maybe this is the reason I need to clean out my garage this weekend.

I wonder how much the extra weight will affect MPG's.

If I'm being completely honest, the customer service hasn't bee horrible, and the issue hasn't been with the manufacturer, but the Amazon Marketplace seller (Anything Automotive - I've never heard of them either). The manufacturer has actually been quite helpful and easy to work with. Availability is a bit of an issue, but I'd suggest if you do order this online (cheapest), find out where the parts are coming from. In my case, the items have been shipped via UPS from Jacksonville, FL to Vista, CA. A 70+ part wrapped in a cardboard box and one layer of bubble wrap is doomed to get nicked at that rate. If I'm being completely honest, a $7 can of bed liner would quickly resolve my issues. I'm just an asshole.

71 pounds of extra weight, not exactly aerodynamic... still, I can't imagine losing more than 1 mpg on it.
