What is TSB leaf springs + aal?

What is TSB leaf springs + aal? Sorry new to the forum?

 

TSB is new 4 leaf packs that toyota puts on if you complain about the lack of payload performance on the factory 3 leaf packs. This is free through a TSB at the dealership. AAL= add a leaf, adding an aftermarket leaf to each side to lift and stiffen the rear end in your own dime. I have both and together you can expect 2-3 inches of rear lift depending on which AAL you go with. I purchased a wheelers AAL set. Hope this helps.

Yes....Only under warranty. If your looking for more affordable lift and your out of warranty there is the option of a 2"aal. If your still under warranty and get the tsb completed then you have the option of the 1.5"aal. Hope this helps.

 

Wait what? So even for 2014's I can get this tsb? How long does it take?

 

Tsb is not something manufacturer feel like it's not something they have to fix. They only fix it when people complain about the part.
You have to realize most trucks now a days are not bought to be used as a truck. People don't haul shit around no more. So they are made to drive like cars. Made for comfort not usability.Toyota may never fox this "problem"

 

... and what is the best approach to convince local service dept to accept the TSB work?

Drive up with 50 bags of potting soil in the bed, and show the tech?

"Fresh" used 2012 here. I thought I was buying a truck...

 

As along as your in the 3 year 30k miles. Just go in and tell them the rear leafs sag under load and you feel unsafe

 

36,000 miles is the limit. Mine were done at 34,500, thanks to this informative forum.

Lol i was close. I did mine at 2 weeks and 3 thousand miles

 

The 2014 already has the newest/best leafs on it......pretty sure you're out of luck. How many leafs do you have? 3 + overload or 2 + overload? I've read on here that ALL 2014s have the 3 + overload now which would be the TSB leafs. The TSB is for older trucks.....maybe up to 2012.

 

my 2013 sport has 3 plus the overload.

 

Are there also some ride improvements with the TSB done, i.e., less bed bounce (when empty), better handling?

 

Count the number of main leafs you have. Those are the longer leafs. There should be 3 of them. Your overload leaf is short and upside down. There is one of them. If you have this, a 4 leaf pack, you don't need a tsb leaf instal by the dealer. If they begin to sag when you put miles on the truck you may need to install an aal to stiffen things up again. Your decision though.

 

As iI am approaching the end of my warranty, and the end of the window to get the 2.5 to 3.5 leaf change, I am reviving the thread to ask:
(3.5 = 3 plus shorter overload leaf)

Did anybody REGRET getting the 3-leaf pack?

The TSB for weak load carrying doesn't apply to 2012s. Good luck trying to get it. If you have driveline vibrations, that might be your best bet. Simply complaining about load carrying doesn't apply to 2012 and higher. The driveline vibration TSB includes new leafs.

 

Well.. that's very unfortunate, disappointing, and not very good design, perhaps!

I am quite capable of picking up, say 600 lbs of compost, have it weighted at the dump, and drive to my local dealer, who sold me a TRUCK.

I believe the 2014 Off Roads still only had 2+1 until October of last year (sports had 3+1). Bought mine in December and it has the 3+1.

 

Also, there is another tsb that covers the driveline vibes which is an entirely new leaf pack.
