    I have a few mods
    hey quick question, ok so I replaced my rear drum shoes today after work (I hate drums), but im not getting much brake engagement until close to the floor when it really catches and stops violently and I do not believe my E-brake is even engaging either. Ive tried backing up and braking several times and engagint the ebrake to set the rear brakes and even putting it in drive and trying it, but no changes. The ebrake when I push it down feels like its not even doing anything at all, just goes straight to the floor with no resistance and clicks and stops. I dont think the adjuster lever is stuck on the star wheel. I really dont know whats up, anybody possibly have any tips?

    not bad, but i also plan on having to notch bent tubes for cages and bumpers. I work in a shop currently that has tools but not all the right tools. If i start a business its going to have the right tool. Im not knocking you by any means, i just hate using tools that are just good enough for the job

    Yup thats the only down side to that, can't cope certain angles on bends. :cool:

    Sounds like you need to open the rears back up and adjust them properly. They aren't self adjusting so reversing and all the stuff you are saying isn't doing anything to help.

    You may be able adjust them with a flat head from the rear of the drum without taking them off. Never done rear brakes on a Taco but im sure Jason can weigh in more on this.

    On the first gens this is how it's done. Idk if the second gens are the same, but it's simple there is a slot on the back side that is plugged by a rubber grommet. Pop out that rubber and locate the adjuster gear and rotate it to expand the adjuster. You can only rotate it one way without having to use a second flat head to lift a gear stop then rotate. But I believe to tighten then no need for second flat head. This is first gen atleast from my experience.

    All those are great and an easy way to adjust it. Just put the rear end up in the air and put the truck in neutral. That way, as you adjust it, turn the wheel a bit until you feel those brakes just start to touch and stop the wheel. You should still be able to spin it, but you should feel a slight resistance. Once you do that to both sides you should be good to go.
