Just curious, has anyone driven on the spare wheel for an extended period? My girlfriend hit my driver's front wheel into a concrete light pole base yesterday. It bent/cracked the rim, and popped the tire off the bead. I'm taking it as a sign to do a full 3" lift, and new wheels and tires. However, I don't want to do it all at the same time, especially considering I haven't even found out what it will take to get the truck drivable again (wheel turned 90 degrees, shimmy everywhere, etc.). My thought - see if the tire is still good, and put that on the spare wheel and drive like that until I can afford new wheels. Anyone know if there is any concern with the spare wheel's ability to be used over a longer period?

As long as the tire size matches, you're good to go. They are not temporary spare tires, so no problem. Make sure the rest of the front end gets checked out properly and an alignment done, including a check for a bent hub or spindle. It sounds like a pretty solid hit.

Being a 4x4 the spare should match all the others, assuming you have stock size tires. If that's the case then you'll be fine.

i wouldnt worry so much driving on the full size spare as i would the integrity of the front suspension and steering now... a hit that hard to crack a rim is pretty damn hard.

Your spare will be fine as long as it is the same size as the tires on the truck, but your front end IS NOT. For the front wheel to turn 90 degrees you have serious damage and a dangerous truck that should not be on the road. The truck needs to be parked and repaired before you kill someone.

Yeah wow, if she bent the rim and turned the wheel in 90°, you need to check the hard parts on your suspension and steering, that is not something a simple wheel swap will fix. Good luck.

I should have clarified, the truck wasn't being driven after the wreck. I would never drive it without repairing it - the question was referring to after I fixed it. It's been completely checked out and she bent a tie rod and the CV is loose. It's fixed and back on the road, with the bigger 265/70/17 on the spare rim. So all tires match. Now to find new rims and spec out a lift...
