My tacoma is the first manual shift vehicle I've onwed in 30 years. Hopefully it won't be the last. I've noticed one thing with the manual shift vs the auto that I really like. The manual will stay at whatever speed your driving. The auto on the other hand will always try to go faster.

If I'm driving in a 35mph zone than I can bet the manual shift will stay at that speed. The auto on the other hand is always heading for 50 mph. I'm constantly taking my foot off the gas or hitting the brake.

And I was never a fan of the manual shift. But I like the idea of maintaining a speed rather than fighting to stay at it.

    Anyone else notice this?

Ford is again upping the ante with the new F-150. Seems they are looking at a Diesel and 10-Speed transmission! Toyota pay attention.

    http://www.leftlanenews.com/ford-reviving-v6-diesel-for-f-150.html

Ford has reportedly revived development of a V6 diesel that will eventually make its way into the company's F-150 pickups, unnamed sources have told TTAC. The 3.0-liter oil burner, codenamed "Lion," is said to be on track for an arrival before 2018.

The project was allegedly initiated years ago before development was shelved due to the recession in 2008. Ford management is said to have reversed its earlier decision after Dodge introduced a Ram 1500 with a diesel powerplant that promises 420 lb-ft of torque and competitive fuel efficiency.

Aside from the diesel project, Ford is also expected to introduce a new 10-speed transmission option for its trucks and SUVs, along with aluminum-bodied Ford Expeditions and Lincoln Navigators. Despite the move to aluminum panels for the F-150 this year, the company is said to have no plans for a similar change with its Super Duty editions.

Many of the development projects are allegedly proceeding within Ford's Mexican division, though production is believed to be headed back to US factories.

Well we should find out very soon if there is new Tacoma. People should remember that Toyota does not produce same model for more than 10 years with out major change.
Exception was FJ70 series. I don't see what major change can be done to Tacoma. It's big enough, strong enough and tough enough. It's possible 2gen truck will join FJ70 in the legend circle. :D

I prefer gassers and I won't drive anything but a manual.when I wrote off my dodge, the Tacoma was the only choice.don't know what I will do when Toyota stops making a manual trans.won't be driving a gm no mater how good it looks or drives(yeah right)if it doesn't have a manual

The A-Bat was an ugly POS, I can't believe that Toyota would incorporate design cues from that into anything.

But if they make the Tacoma into a Prius truck then I will buy a Ram in the Future
