check these guys out, spoke with someone and its cheaper than fedex/ups but limited area, opening a location in seattle very soon and sounds like they are hoping to get southern or as well. I believe he said less than 5 for any box under 75 and around 60-75 for a pallet. spoke very generally though, try these guys out next time you are staying local with a shipment!

Make yourself a knopix disc, and learn Linux. Knopix is designed to run a full blown OS from a disc so you don't need the HDD. You could also use knopix to boot, then burn a DVD with anything you want backed up. On crucial info, have a copy on external drive, either flash drive or HDD.

Now quit using the ibm/hitachi deskstar drives. Those things are crap all the time.

 

all 4 of my drives are WD. i normally back everything up every 6months to my external but I hadn't gotten around to it. i'll check out knopix though, thanks!

 

I have an Ubuntu boot disk that has saved me and my brother a few times. If you can get the BIOS to boot from CD then see if the HDD shows up in Ubuntu's explorer you might be able to find the corrupt file and restore it.

I found bad registry DLL files to be at fault on more than one occasion.

Keep us posted man, sounds like there's a few nerds here that can help out if needed.

 

On a side note, I just became good buddies with a local Amsoil dealer that lives down the road from me.

Gonna meet up with him this week to pick up some ATF and Syn.Oil...told him about TW and our local group and he will set me up as a preferred customer so we can all purchase good fluids at wholesale cost.

I'll post more specifics as I learn more, along with all the different/recommended fluids for our rigs. He carries it all: ATF, syn. Oil, gear oil, grease, MP spray, 2-cycle etc.

 

Amsoil is good stuff. I had a silverado 20 years ago that had really low compression in two cylinders. I sprayed Amsoil's foaming carburetor cleaner in those cylinders and left over night. Unplugged coil and cranked over to pump out fluid. Fired up, changed oil, retested. Compression came back to within factory spec. The cleaner ate the carbon off of the piston rings.

We also put their ATF in some transmissions in our fleet vehicles; that were slipping bad. After a short period, they quit slipping and we got a few more years out of them before rebuilding.

The engine oil also softened up many of the leaky seals - no more leaks.

This is really mostly a testament to synthetic oils in general. They have their merits.

 

www.linuxiso.org was where I was getting .iso images then burn a disc. It was all free there a few years ago. I walked away from being a computer junkie in favor of other things, like female companionship, modding a quick car, and working for a living.

 

Thinking I may need fluids before I become a 5 hour drive away. If only I had more money and time.

 

Adding an additional 220V 50A outlet to my shop.. Going to do a surface mount w/flexible conduit.

Single strand 6 AWG sound about right, Zach? Only going to be a 7' run from my breaker panel to the outlet.

 

Yes, 3 wires (red, black, green) all #6. Get more wire than you think, because you will want to have enough to route inside the panel and land it. Make sure you either have the 2 pole breaker or get a breaker tie for 2 separate breakers. It is code that on 240v, that if one breaker trips, the other must also trip.

 

Ben - nice about the oil. I was trying to find a local dealer and wasn't having luck. This will help me from having to make special trips to dad's.
