I'm considering buying one. I can get one for $100 transferred to me, on the fence about it though...

Thanks again for the heads up on those buffers, they came in the mail yesterday and I now have all the parts and pieces for my build :woot:

Id get one. I think they are $108 on the AP website, plus shipping plus FFL fee.

Just keep it in the safe as an investment.

...the new ultimate home defense weapon?... slug-like KE w/ flatter trajectory, and consider they say this large projectile is designed to upset (yaw) in the target!

I just finished my first ever AR build. Pretty happy with how it went together, I only launched one detent into orbit, but had extras on hand. I have a question for you vets of these builds.

I used The Competitive AR15 Builder's Guide as my reference and a buddy who's built 7 ARs watched over the process and provided an extra set of hands for some of the steps. That book makes mention of checking the head space and using go/no go gages.

The impression I got was this is a step you wouldn't want to skip, as you can have a catastrophic failure if shit is off.

The weapon hasn't been fired yet, and I'm still waiting on a comp to get here from Brownells. The problem I have is that a set of go/no go gages for 5.56, or any caliber really, isn't cheap. I don't plan on building anymore rifles, even though this was pretty fun, so it seems like I'd blow $60+ on a one time use item.

I didn't cheap out on the build either. I have a Mega Arms stripped upper, Spike's Tactical BCG and Spike's Tactial CHF barrel with M4 feeds.

My buddy says he never has checked head spacing, and since I have all good quality mil-spec parts, I shouldn't worry about it. What is the general consensus here?

I think you can rent gauges from a couple places for maybe $20, but most home builders don't check headspace. You bought a decent bolt & a decent barrel, & both are new. You should be fine.

    I agree.
I just finished upper build #2
RRA 20" Bull & DPMS vented FFT- $150.00 1/8 twist
    Spikes Upper $90
    Spikes CH -$15.00
Less than great quality BCG from PSA $90.00

Fairly confident this will be a fairly accurate upper for cheap, but have not tried anything but factory 45g JHP`s.
