The radio in my 09 regular cab has been messed up since I took delivery on 6/10/09. It turns on/off at will, volume sometimes doesn't work and display goes blank/reads gibberish. Over a month ago my dealer said they would replace the head unit, told me Toyota received a "bad batch" of radios with internal shorts from their supplier and that they would have a new one for me in about two weeks. I called this week, when the radio stopped working altogether, and they said it would be 1-3 weeks longer until they receive the new head unit. Is it taking this long for others to get this fixed?

It seems like the more '09s getting this done the back order time for new head units is getting crazy long :(

That sucks! However its a good excuse to get a better aftermarket head unit ;) If mine messes up I'll go that route

I went by the dealership and the guy told me since I was just having volume problems that when it happens to just bang right above the cd player slot and it would help. I thought he was full of sh!t but the next time it happened I banged on it hard and strangely it hasn't done it in 3+ weeks  who knows if this actually fixed it or if it randomly started working but made me laugh.

I was told there was a 4 week back order on my radio. It's been 5 days now- we'll see how long it really takes.

The radio in my '09 is tweaky too. Does all kinds of goofy sh!t. Since it sounds like crap when it works, I'm just going to wait till it craps out and replace it with an aftermarket head unit and probablly speakers.

I'd rather do this than let the dealer scratch the crap out of everything just to install another POS factory unit.

Got the exact same problem with the radio in my taco truck. It turned itself on while we were sitting at a stop light and then the volume wouldn't adjust until you changed the station and then it would work. The volume issue has been going on for a while. I will call the dealer for a fix.....thanks for the info here.....

Got a call today that my radio is in. They're putting it in tomorrow at 1:00. So it took about 5 weeks for me. I'll update next week and let you know if the new unit is working properly.

My radio started messing up(volume stuck, turns off by itself)after having the truck a week(purchased 6-8-09), thought I was going crazy! It's funny that I just read this post as I just came from the dealership who said they should have the radio in about a week, we'll see, I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Really nice to have this site! Being able to have others t converse about issues and just general stuff about these tacomas is great:)

had mine replaced today, new unit works well, and they carried over all of my presets n such. RT which dealer are you going through? how have they treated you? also in bucks and havent been real happy w/ the majority of the dealers ive been in contact with. Took them about an hour and a half to get it taken care of this morning.

Carried over all your presets? Sounds like they didn't replace it at all and did something else to fix your existing unit. I will bring mine in for replacement this weekend. I'm gonna make a mark with a pen on my unit to make sure they actually replace it.

I suppose that is possible. Volume knob felt a bit stiffer when adjusting it and the cd i left in there was back at the beginning about 30seconds into the first track. Also all of the adjustments (bass, treble and fade) were back to 0. So it could be possible that they had just fixed something and called it a day, but i figure that the settings would have carried over as well if the presets did(had they not replaced the radio). Doesn't matter much to me either way, so long as the thing works. But if they were going to fix the thing id hope they would have done so earlier rather than making me wait 5 weeks.
