Thanks Chaz! Yeah, thats the look I was going for on the second one (in the exam lane).. I did a very fast zoom from one extreme (105mm) to the other (24mm) during the 1 second exposure. The first shot of the lobby & frames was more of a slow zoom during that 1 second. I'm pretty happy with how they turned out since I haven't really experimented with this technique much in the past..

One perk of zooms I guess. I almost 100% shoot with primes lately and it didn't even occur to me to do what y'all did zooming in and out. A whole different dimension of motion I wouldn't have even considered ha

A while ago, we were chatting about focus technique.

One technique is back button focus. Here's an article from PetaPixel about why it's such a good technique for focus.

 

I'd love to get some critiques on these photo

I just started trying this out a couple days ago. I really like it on ai-servo so it tracks the subject in focus well. No more hitting the shudder botton halfway to focus.

 

It seems ok if you're going to use the single/continuous focus a lot. I don't switch them very often.

 

Pretty good! Only thing I noticed was the reds in the wheels looks a little over saturated and the photo on top you over saturated the orange field and blue sky but on the bottom photo did not edit them. I'd bring them both to a happy medium for consistency and a more natural looking background.

 

Mode doesn't matter. You're moving the half press to start of focus from the shutter to the back button is all.

Ian thanks for the link and reminder on the back button! Just started playing with that again and I really like decoupling focus from the shutter button. Little bit of retraining needed but so far I think it'll be the way I roll.

Nick, only problem with those shots is they make me want a bike BAD! haha
but on a serious note, I agree they are a little bit soaked, the red-ish field gave it away. Red has always been a tougher color in editing for me. Otherwise sweet shot!

 

yea i agree with chaz and Marc, red is too saturated and the sky even seems unnatural..but awesome shots otherwise!

 

On the second image, watch your cropping, a little close on the wheel, pull it back.

 

You're starting to get a glow around the bike where you are pushing the HDR a little too much if you're going for a more natural look.

I also agree that the red is a little too saturated for my liking and the crop a bit tight.

 

I think im down to the Canon 60d vs the T5i. There are very similar. Ill get just the body and spend the extra money on a good lens or 2.

 

Id go 60D unless your planning on doing a lot of video work..But again, if you can, get ahold of them and feel them. The rebel's are nice, but they are super light and even feel cheap compared to the 60/70D and up. Least thats what i have found..

 

I have a 60D and I agree. Having held the Rebels they feel a little kiddish. Don't get me wrong at the end of the day it still comes down to who's behind the lens. But for me, I'm much happier with my 60D than if I had gone with a Rebel.
