Am I in the minority regarding lifts?

I agree with slamming a truck. I also agree with folks who lift trucks just for looks. I lifted my truck for off road use to clear obstacles. A non lifted truck off road is not going to get you very far....

logic,education?..dude,it ain't that deep.you chose the type and color of your truck because it was evidently what you wanted...should i say "why did you do that",no,i shouldn't because it was strictly your decision!i chose to lift mine because i like the look and it rides better than stock.my wife's maxima feels like i'm sitting on a skateboard...stock trucks are boring.

Drove a `82 F150 2 WD back into an area where there were only Jeeps located..can remember the look of surprise on their faces when I pulled in there.

No body damage or tow trucks, just a little experience, and yes..the go pedal.

ETA- before I get the `torch`, NO, I am not the guy who will say a 2wd will go anywhere a 4x will.

 

I don't plan on lifting mine either. I love the look of a lift with expensive suspension systems and after market wheels/tires though . I don't think I'd enjoy riding one on paved roads that feels rough and moves like a tank though.

I'm trying to understand the thought process and a few of the responses have helped me, which is why I asked the question.

If you're not a fan of the Maxima, you'd have hated my G37. But if driving a small rocketship at indescribable speeds around corners isn't fun for you... I get it. Crawling over rocks may be your thing. Just as cool... only different.

I'm not slamming anyone's decision to do what they do. I'm just asking why. You might try asking questions... some of the answers might make you smarter.

 

My 5-lug does great hauling whatever I need, no need for a lift or bigger tires for me.

 

Honestly I can see where you are coming from. I have no desire to lift my truck other than maybe some 5100's to level it out. I freely admit my truck is a pavement princess and gets me where I need to go to launch my kayaks without any issues. I would never dream of taking my truck "rock crawling" but that is just me. It is nice knowing that I have a truck that with the right lift and mods is capable of doing just that though. Mostly mine is for snow and being able to get around and the occasional trail. I would be sick if I pinstriped my truck with tree branches.

Note... I'm in the minority here and I completely understand the desire to go off roading. If I ever get the desire I'll by a side by side Can Am or something similar that if it breaks I can still get back home with my truck.

some do it for looks
for function, "lifting" the truck, while in itself increasing ground clearance, allows for the fitment of larger tires- which provide ground clearance and a wider contact patch where it matters

"lifts" usually incorporate parts that also increase suspension travel. In off-camber situations like rock crawling, travel is the name of the game. You can't get anywhere if your rubber is in the air.

then you get away from "lifts" per se, but full suspension swaps like LT and SAS guys.

 

What are some of your idea's behind not lifting? What other thoughts do you have on the matter?

 

I was in the Military for 20 years. I've deployed a number of times to Iraq. I work in a jail now. Some inmates scare me, but that's a sensible fear. Forum badasses... not so much.

My skin is thick enough. I've been on interweb forums long enough to know when you are the new guy you're going to get sarcastic responses. I'm from New England. I got my PhD in sarcasm in middle school. Not worried about it, bro... it's all good.

I didn't read the entire thread but judging from the last page it must have been pretty ugly.

If you're talking to me. I just don't want too. I like the way the truck sits right now and as I said before I don't do any hard core off roading. It would be wasted on me. I can see where some like it and I agree some of the lifted trucks look damn good. It's just not my style.
