A/C on with Defrost

You can't, it's a good part of the design. I like that my window shield and side windows stay clear with the floor setting. Why is it bad?

 

Another satisfied customer! Works perfectly on my 13 SR5 following the diagram on page 8. Also did the "eliminate auto AC when turning the knob all the way to cold".

 

Lol. Why would you want to disable AC coming on with defrost?

Unless there is something I'm forgetting, there's no advantage. The AC is on with defrost to dry out the air as it passes through the evaporator. And your AC your won't go on below about -10*c anyway. Your gas milage won't be improved enough to notice. What's the alleged advantage :|

 

Reducing engine draw can only improve mileage - maybe not enough to notice but it does. Maybe it doesn't do anything but at least I can choose if I want it on. Back in the day most cars didn't come with AC and everyone did just fine using defrost without the AC. If the windshield starts to fog a bit, I'll hit the button to kick on the AC. I've been driving longer than many commentators have been alive and after owning over 10 vehicles find having manual control to be better for me versus the vehicle choosing what comes on when for me. Anyway, the mod works on a '13 model. I just don't understand why a very good percentage of the threads on here turn into discussion as to why "you don't know what you're talking about". If you don't like the mod, skip over the thread - easy enough...

 

I just love to hear the logic behind pointless mods.


If you've been around that long, shouldn't you know that old saying "if it ain't broke don't fix it". Or that "modding" shit that doesn't need to be modified, is more likely to cause you problems down the road?

 

I look at it like this: it was broke.. I just fixed it. As with any mod, "I am my own warranty station" and this was an instance that I believe needed to be modded. Here's another old saying "to each his own" and maybe another "If you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything". Enough.

Back to the original intent of this post. Thanks to the OP for figuring out the mod.

you haven't read the thread and you come spouting the worthlessness of the mod. Just because you don't find it useful, doesn't mean others won't

I did this mod because I like to drive with air blowing through the defrost but only want a/c when I want it. I want to control the truck, not it telling me when to have the a/c on.

Running the compressor to remove moisture from air that has very little moisture is silly, made especially so when one considers that heating the air has the same effect while simultaneously keeping the passengers warm. With this mod I have the choice (imagine that) to engage the compressor the three days of the winter I may actually need it.

You may also want to read what the mod consists of before shitting on it. If you had, you would have discovered that it is non-destructive and can be reversed in less than 5 minutes.

Exactly, I have read all the posts & from the first, I couldn't understand what was to be accomplished, to each their own, I'm not sure I would call this a mod, I guess it doesn't hurt anything, but I don't see any advantage. jmop

 

Many manufacturers including Honda let you turn the a/c on or off if you choose, instead of forcing you to like Toyota. That is because there is an advantage to not running the a/c when it isn't needed. Simple as that.

They still make cars without a/c, and they do just fine defrosting.

 

I can see the merit of this mod if you used the defroster...I haven't had a defroster on in my vehicles for the last 20 yrs or so (other than to turn it on to see if it still works)...not much need for it around here. There just isn't any moisture usually in the air to fog up the windshield, and no frost on the windshield in the morning under a carport.

Would use it if needed, and probably would do this mod if I did.
