I'm still stockpiling parts that will likely take me forever to install.

Among other things, I'm currently eyeing the Porterfield pads / Stoptech slotted & drilled combo from Wheelers.

Anybody replaced front brake pads & rotors before?

Details.... Whatever we want them to be heh heh. Since I have only been in WA for a year I don't know all of the cool spots. The only limitation is I can't go on Saturday.

    About a 2 beer job..

I've gotten to the point where I can swap a wheel bearing/CV in 30 mins!

Your rotors most likely have threaded portions towards the hub for jacking screws; forget the thread size.. I'm sure it's on here somewhere. Maybe M8 1.25?

Either that or a few solid wacks with a 2x4/Mallet combo will free them up.

Job is pretty much self-explanatory. Just be sure to douche them in brake cleaner after your done.

Those slotted rotors are nice for a race car.

I'd stick with Brembo OEM replacements myself.

    TW B'Ham meet bitches..

I've done pads but not rotors before, but I did look into it. For the longevity of rotors, get them cryo treated. This will help to dissipate heat more efficiently, and in turn keep rotors from warping or wearing unevenly.
Once you pull the calipers off the rotors, hang them on your spring to keep from putting unnecessary tension on the brake lines.
In replacing pads, it helps to have the tool to press the old pads in, but if you don't have it, use a basic C clamp. Just watch your brake fluid resivoir and be ready to pull some out.
Once you are done with the swap, pump your brakes until you feel them tighten up. I did a brake job and didn't think to pump the brakes once done and I was parked on a slope. Luckily I was quick on the e-brake.

I know of a few places between highway 2 and highway 20. I don't get down south that often so once I head south of highway 2 I'm lost. Since I don't know where you guys are from, what direction would you like to head. With the way the snow is we will need to gain some altitude to get decent snow.

If you don't draw blood, you're doing it wrong!
Good man, I think I got all the water/mud out in time to avoid any mold or mildew. The sensors and plugs look OK, but as Tallon suggested, I'm gonna hit each one with some dielectric grease today (since they are all easy to get to right now :p)

Should get the carpet back tomorrow and then put it all back together and then focus on the engine swap.

That would be Will (penguins_cc). Either it wouldn't work or seller doesn't know what he is talking about. Factory gearing is 3.73 and he listed the parts as 4.10.

Didn't some older, std trans trucks have 410s; and they fit our 2nd gens? Aren't 4.10s hard to find?

Some 2.7s came with that ratio from the factory.. It's what I had before I regeared.

Quite desirable; as the only manufacturer for that gear set is Toyota.

That's what I thought. This is tempting.
I've been thinking of going from my 3.73s to 4.10s. But if I do, it'll be along with lockers. I installed the ECGS bushing and it did not make my front diff vibes go completely away. So I'm thinking about going ARB with new gears.

Is there an easy way to tell what ratio my 2009 regular cab 5 speed has?

There's a code on your VIN label on the door jam. Mine says A04C, for example. But I have yet to find a reliable ratio chart for 2nd Gens, on the Internets. I've thought about just jacking up the rear end and counting how many turns my drive shaft has for one tire rotation; but I now feel very confident in what I have - so I'll skip this.

I want to do a snow trip. I need to operate in 4wd for February.

Middle of January the gate on the Mountain Loop Highway was open due to lack of snow. There was 9"-12" of snow on the road, unplowed. I turned around at Barlow pass but the road was open beyond. I'd have gone farther with a group.

There were trees down across the road to add to the sense of adventure.

It appears the gate may still be open here's the county website: http://www1.co.snohomish.wa.us/Departments/Public_Works/Services/Roads/Road_Closures.htm

When I got my truck, the brochure at Yota dealership listed gearing for all the 2011 submodels. The only one that wasn't 3.73 was the Xrunner which was 3.15. If you can find a brochure for 2009, it should list gearing on one of the pages.

If I had more time, and tires that would work for deeper snow, I would be all over this with a chainsaw in the back of my truck.
