Went in for my first oil change and tire rotation on Saturday 2/1, at the dealer where I purchased my truck, took about 30 minutes. All done, got in started up, and drove about 70 yards, and the engine shut down. I thought WTF, this is a brand new truck! Walked back in to the service area, got the attention of one of the service advisers. I told him what happened, and popped the hood. He checked the oil, put the dip stick in again, and said I can't see any oil on the stick! I said, you mean that the truck was pulled out of the service bay, and drove all the way around the building to the customer waiting area, and then i got in and drove off WITHOUT ANY OIL? He said yes! He immediately went to the service area and called about 6 or 7 mechanics to push the truck back to the service area. He was apologizing all the while. i asked him if the engine was seized, he said "I don't know", and told me that they wanted to keep it for a couple of days, and put me in a rental car. I thought to myself, keeping it a couple of days will not unseize the engine.

This truck had 4758 miles on it. In my mind the engine is toast, and they need to make it right and replace with a new factory engine.

    Need your input!

WOW! I thought I was paranoid after my factory oil change...I check the filter with a flashlight in the lot to make sure it's secure and new, check the oil cap, and the dip stick...I feel validated...

And you def should place a call to toyota corporate USA about this...There is no way you want a rebuilt engine on a 5K Truck...

Thanks for the reply. I'm waiting to see what the dealer tells me tomorrow, and what their plans are. For, i want nothing but a new engine!

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Looks like you're getting a new motor. Congrats! Tell them to replace the "Supercharger", while they're at it.

There's more than one reason I do ALL of my own work if I am physically able to.
Too many stories like this, and the filter not being changed, things left loose, etc...

If it ran that long with no oil, toast. That's horrible! New engine for sure. Maybe even try to get them to trade up your truck for a new one since the mileage is so low.

This should never happen but it does.
If the motor is seized it's going to be replaced.
If they say its ok then make the argument for them to give you a lifetime internal engine warr. For as long as you own the truck anything internal will be on their dime.
They are not going to replace the engine if it runs and sounds ok IMHO.
However I have been surprised before.

    Best deal for the dealer.
Trade for a new truck, and sell his at near MSRP on the used lot with a rebuild.

Tell them they are putting a new motor in the truck. Service departments represent toyota, this is not what corporate wants when offering the consumer free oil changes. What a disgrace to the brand.

My assumption is they will tell you they took the couple of days to inspect the truck and found no harm was caused and offer some small amount of free future service work.

Seen this too many times at shops.

I am sure it is documented but make sure you get a copy and that toyota corporate has it in their system, so it is in the national system and not just one of their own local computers.

Main concern is a spun bearing.

Truck will typically fire back up one the oil is added and engine has cooled down but who knows how the bearings will look.

I torture tested junk engines when I was younger and it was amazing what they would run on. Talking about mountain dew, sand, ketchup whatever non sense we thought was funny. Some even restarted after shutting off on their own.

Ta hell with just a new motor. And there would be no way in hell they would put anything reman in it. I would be telling them I want a brand new truck because you are worried about future resale value and how much this is going to effect it.

A little of this and a little of that.
Wow. I'm so glad to be able to do oil & filter changes myself. I'm sure they'll replace your engine.
They'd replace my supercharger too. And I don't even have a SC.

    Hmmm sounds ugly.

Exactly why I didn't go back for the free oil changes.

Bunch of rookies at the dealer service. Bought mine and they took it in for a once over( was a demo model) and some how they lost the cap. I didn't notice it until I went to do my fog light mod. Called them pissed and found it behind the headlight. Im doing my own service now

Not real sure if I would want them to replace my supercharger so to say... I mean if they can't even remember to put oil back in the truck what would make you think they could correctly install a supercharger?

x2, I'd be furious and pushing for the dealer to take the truck as a trade in for a new replacement also.
