    I'm thinking the 4.0.

Know what are really super gay?

Audis where the oil filter is a cartridge, where the filter is jammed on the side of the engine above the subframe. Forgot which engine it is.

I'd definitely contact corporate. That is ridiculous. I would demand a new, numbers matching truck. A new motor will hurt the resale value of your truck. I would cause as much noise as possible and make it their responsibility to get you to be quiet on your terms. A squeaky wheel gets the grease.

I just hope calling corporate won't get the OP shafted the other way. One possible scenario: Toyota says this is a dealer mistake, so compensation is between the OP and the dealer. Meanwhile Toyota voids the manufacturer's powertrain warranty since the engine ran without oil.

Ya, BMW did it right with the cartridge on top.
Toyota isn't horrible except for the need to drop the skid plates, but I had to do that on my '03 Tundra.

Thanks for all of the replies. You have given me a lot of info, especially the numbers. I do want a clean record. The dealer will call me tomorrow, and will update after. Thanks for all your help.

Or you could just sit out in front of the dealer with a big sign and a 8.5 by 11 piece of paper with your story that you give a copy to everyone you see driving in there too..

After my 2nd oil change at the local dealer I was checking the oil level to be sure it was done correctly. As I was getting ready to close the hood, a red object caught my eye down in the engine compartment. Come to find out they had put a bottle down there to catch the oil from the filter drain and never removed it. One of the pulleys had started to cut into it, but it had not caused any damage, thankfully.

I'd definitely want a new truck. Should've never happened.

I would almost say that Xaks dated himself with that comment... but it's a little too soon.

    I'd say he's over 30 though ;)
