I'd personally hold out for a new engine. and they need to move the S/C over.

This is exactly how it happened to me but I drove for about 20 miles with weird noise under the hood, came out to check it out and saw oil everywhere. Drove it back to the dealer, ask them to clean my engine and noted in writing for future just-in-case.

    Good luck, OP.

Remember, there is still a layer of oil on the parts even after the engine is shut off. It's not like the parts are instantly dry metal to metal.

I'm not saying there wasn't damage, or that he shouldn't get another engine, but I think a new truck is overkill.

Personally, I would demand an extended warranty. If damage was done, it would show up well within the warranty period. Also, this way the original engine stays in the truck. It will be less headache for all and you won't have to deal will a loaner vehicle.

I'm not sure I'd want the same dealership that gave me my truck back with no oil in it do an engine swap. Too many chances for error there. Or major engine repair for that matter.

I don't think this is true. That "Special" service tool can be bought from the service dept for under $20 if I remember correctly. My wifes venza uses the cartridges. The frist oil change I did, I didn't have the tool as I didn't know I needed it. It's possible to accomplish the task with large set of channel locks. The tool just makes it easy peasey. I don't know what the thought behind going back to the cartridges was. By them offering the "special" service tool for sale doesn't force you to use thier sub-standard service dept.

    Oh and.......

THANK YOU!!! I hate when my wife's Rav4 comes due for an oil change, takes 3x as long as one on my truck and always ends up with at least a couple busted knuckles.

    nothing cool
Sub'd for outcome too. After reading all 5 pages I'd say you are good for a new engine. Personally speaking I wouldn't be concerned with numbers matching either. Like someone posted, it's not an old classic car. Since nothing else was damaged I don't think you'll get a new truck. Keep us updated because like most of us I really want to know how this turns out.

Wish you luck, but even if they replace the engine, the truck will never be the same again. They have to tear apart all the wires and bolts and make a mess under the hood. I'd try for a different truck with the dealer.

Yeah that makes sense to me. A good long extended warranty may be better than a new engine or even a new truck.

That way if the engine craps out then it is covered, and the longer it takes to crap out the better for the OP, i.e. after 40k miles then he gets to start new - plus all the other issues the extended warranty will cover

But if it makes new noises for the rest of the life of the truck, that would just drive me nuts. Especially to have the dealer tell me its normal.

Don't think he will get a new engine cause it's to expensive, they are going to fix the problem the cheapest way possible for them.
