Not happy with TSB Spring swap....

What would be the easiest thing to do?Can I just remove one of the springs? I don't like the ride now and wish it were back to factory suspension.Would it help to replace the rear shocks with some that are more forgiving? What's a guy to do?

What about the Bilstein struts up front? They lift the front from what I understand. I might have to get some factory springs from the wrecking yard.

^yep it is. Dumping my trd bilsteins for the 5100's was a great move. A much more balanced ride than the overly stiff bil's

 

Why did you get the TSB done? Do you haul large loads or did you just want them because you could get them?

If you haul, you will want them. If you got them "just because", trade up with someone who is unable to get the work completed. It's harsh because they gave you a stiffer set of leaf springs in the back. New struts won't do anything for you.

 

IMO, a stiffer ride is a good trade off for not hitting the bump stops on mildly bumpy roads with only two people in the truck. That's dangerous as hell.

 

Yea, I was thinking of just swapping the rear leafs. I think most of the stiffness is from the rear. I may leave the front Bilsteins and just replace the rear leafs with some from the wrecking yard(if I can't find someone to trade me). I don't haul much, but mine was bottoming out with my inlaws in the truck with me and my wife. I just couldn't believe that the Tacoma couldn't handle 4 adults without any cargo at all. All 4 of us together weigh less than 900 lbs. But, they don't ride with me much and if they do it mostly bottoms out on rough roads or speed bumps. I can deal with it for that long.

Give it a little time before you trade it- it may settle a bit and become a lil softer

 

So, can I just remove a spring? And if so which one?

 

I've had mine for about 8 months and they are still stiff and the rear end is still high.
Also the OP went from the stock shocks to the Bilsteins and I may be mistaken, but aren't those also stiffer? Seems like it to me after I had it done.

Have to checked with the dealer and see what they would do about changing them back out for the 3 leaf pack?

 

They said that once they do the swap Toyota won't pay to put it back and that Toyota recall's all the warranty parts back.

 

Yes, the dealer has to ship the old parts back to Toyota to get paid for it, but the dealer might have the 3 leaf packs in stock which you could then purchase from them and either have them, some place else or yourself install. So yes you'd end up paying to put it back to stock.
Not likely you will get someone to trade, because you would have to remove them with nothing to put in place till you received them and same for the other person. But however you replace the 4 pack, you can probably get a little $$ for it from someone who doesn't qualify.

If you still don't like the ride with the Bilstein shocks, you might be able to buy the stockers from someone with an sr5 then sell the bilsteins. But none of the parts are worth much to people, so you will still be out $$.

Or just deal with it, the TSB warned the ride would be stiff.

 

Yea I know, but alot of people on here said that they loved the way theirs rode or couldn't tell much difference. I'm going to see if I can find someone to trade and if not maybe someone who replaced their stock leaf packs will sell them.

(person out of warranty who doesn't like the 3-leaf springs and has a plain ol' SR5)
