Get your money back from down payment and what they gave you for a trade if you had one and go somewhere else.

That's horrible!! I'd try to get them to let me trade that truck in for another one at little to no cost. Hope everything turns out ok for you!

I'd almost go as far as getting an attorney and pushing for them to give you a brand new engine. No oil in a NEW engine? Yeah... that'll deff hurt it later on the down road.

sorry for what you're going through. likely they will fix the engine the cheapest way possible, i.e. rebuilt engine or even throw some oil in it and they'll give you the BS run-around. best of luck to you though, fight tooth and nail for a new engine at a minimum, maybe even a new truck

FWIW, i never have and never will let anybody work on my vehicles for anything. IMO, techs are like children and need constant supervision for instances just like this. i can understand that people make mistakes, but its up to the manager to own up to and fix this LARGE mistake.

    sub'd for outcome

That really sucks OP! Hopefully it's a good dealership and they handle the situation the best for you. If not, maybe try the attroney general for your state and see what your options could be legally, before going to corporate or anything else. I only say that because, I'm assuming, you also have payments with your bank and loan with them that will need to be handled.

Hopefully things go alright! Sub'd for outcome.

Bummer. The Toyota free oil change thing is nothing more than a sales gimmick and not done by certified techs. Judging by the other threads here on the same exact issue they'll say the engine is fine. If you push it they'll more than likely extend your warrenty.

Keep in mind this is an internet BBS, and outrage is our coin-in-trade. Folks will be demanding nothing less than:

Personal apology visit from the Dealership owner where he also makes you dinner
    The service manager's resignation
    The service writer's prosecution
The actual tech's death sentence and lifetime registry in the state sexual-offender database
Blow up the service bay and placement of a bronze memorial plaque there with a photo of your truck
Melting down of your original truck
Replacement with *two* new trucks in matching his-and-hers colors with upgraded option packages

Based on similar posts on TW in the past - here's what you'll probably actually get -

Dealership techs will remove the oil pan and visually inspect everything for damage.
Assuming, as is likely, none is found, they'll button it up, fill it back up with oil, and send you on your way with an apology, and possibly something like liftetime oil changes for free.

What you can probably get from hard negotiation:
They say it's good - you're worried about it - you make them foot the bill for a lifetime drivetrain extended warranty. This is a way for them to financially cut-their-losses while mitigating your future risk.

If they do find damage when they visually inspect - they'll replace with a remanufactured engine. You can probably also negotiate for the extended warranty.

After all that - if you want to negotiate for a completely new truck - you're going to have to go put some skin in the game, likely paying a per-mile charge based on how much you've already used the truck.

    2c adjusted for inflation.

I disagree. If the OP takes the negotiating position that part of what a new truck means to him is freedom from worry, and now he's always gonna worry about it, and won't be happy with anything less than a new truck

    AND

He's willing to negotiate, and put some money in, like paying for miles used so far, well - dealers buy and sell cars and trucks all the time, it's what they do and everything's up for negotiation.

I actually think that a new truck while putting some money in is easier to get than insisting on replacement of the engine with a new crate engine from the factory.

I also just noticed that the OP joined about an hour before creating this thread...

...posted a "hi guys, I love TW" type introduction,

...then an hour later - this thread.

Either he's the unluckiest new member in the world, or...

He created a chipper new post in 'new members' while fuming inside that his truck's still at the dealer, and then told us the sob story an hour later...

or, just perhaps, we're being trollolled on a topic known to cause angst and anxiety amongst TW members...

Really Rich? I thought you had more respect for me than that.

They did away with "matching numbers" many years ago. Today there is no way to prove if a block or set of heads are the original, or a replacement.

    See comment above.

Technically you won't usually SPIN a bearing until serious bearing damage has occurred and you have a significant knock. However, you will get near-immediate bearing surface damage. It's a common misunderstanding on a spun bearing.

Spoon, I feel ya man. Had it happen a couple of times. MOST people have returned them. I know everyone in my family will return a tool if found after a repair.

You will NEVER get approval for a customer to be in the service area to watch while an engine is being uncrated and installed. The insurance company would throw a FIT.

Toyota is not the only company that uses cartridge filters. Pretty much EVERY manufacturer now has a model or two or three that use them. They are much more efficient actually than the standard spin on filters.

Yeah, and Air Force personnel are the same. I take offense to that statement on techs. I have been a tech for probably as long as you have been alive, and I do quality work. But just like EVERY human being, I make mistakes. But I also own up to them. I have worked with some VERY good techs, and some not so good. Just as I am sure that you have worked with some great AF personnel, as well as some idiots. Doesn't mean that EVERY AF member is an idiot.

Had the transmission replaced after 2 weeks of ownership of my new 2010 Prerunner doublecab. Just traded it in at another dealership after 3 years of ownership on a 2014 Access Cab 4x4. The sales guy pulled up carfax, on my truck, which showed maintenance history but no transmission change as what was originally done to the vehicle. I got 22k on a trade (low mileage on the 2010). The 2010 Prerunner only cost me 24k at the time however if major work on carfax shows up these trades go to auction and dealers will have to offer less for the vehicle since the auction sale will be a lot less. The OP must take this fact into account when he determines his damages by the dealership.

The 5th Gen 4runners have the Cartridges, I just changed mine, and it really isn't too bad. The "Special Tools" needed are a 64mm filter wrench and a 3/8" extension. The filter drain and O-rings come with the new filter, so really no big deal. Back on subject, if you can't trust the dealer to change the oil, how can you trust them doing a huge job like an engine swap. Trading it in on a new truck would really be the only way to go.
