The spike draw would be upwards of 340 amps which the wire will handle. A sustained load of 340 amps will burn it out. Once the winch is actually pulling the amperage would level out at something like 130 amps.

 

Yes. Fire and accident safety as well. No need to have the winch powered all the time.

 

We have a system on aircraft which allows a massive amperage at engine start (1000 amps) for a split second. But once the motor is turning the amperage very quickly diminishes to a more reasonable level.

Your winch will work the same way when it starts the pull.

Look into the electric forklift quick disconnects I'm pretty sure those are 0 gauge

 

i used a bench vise

if mine gets stuck to the point that i risk the safety anyone or my vehicle, i'll take a knife to the winch line. another advantage of synthetic.

exactly. see above. cheaper to cut and buy a new winch line, than a breaker. plus, if you have the time (and it's safe enough), you can cut the line near the hook, and jsut splice a new one on at no cost.

boom vvvv works like anything else with a duty cycle. the capacities you are looking at are constant current ratings.

 

Maybe a little redemption for my fuse debacle earlier. I promise I'm not a total nooob.

might take a little patience getting the wire to physically fit, but they make them with much higher ratings. look up anderson style disconnects.

That's a 2/0 connector, not a 2 gauge. I'm thinking that one might be a bit more than I need.

I had just found the anderson branded connectors when you posted this.

 

oops, my bad. skimming quick on the lunch break. you could always insert the cable, fill the void with solder, and then crimp.you'll actually get a nicer connection with solder.
