I went to the dealer twice fully intending to buy a TacomaOff Road and twice just couldn’t do it. I know the Tacoma is a great truck but when parked next to the Tundra itjust looked so insignificant. I could goon and on but the tiny buttons and knobs the low seat height the feeling ofbeing squished into the truck when a passenger was in the truck and the lack ofpower even with the V6. All these thingskept pushing me towards the Tundra. Atthe time my truck was a 2000 Tundra that I’d owned for 14 years with 150K milesso maybe that’s why I just couldn’t warm up to the little Tacoma. So it looked like the new Tundra was theright truck for me. Then I figured if Iwas going to look at full size trucks I owed it to myself to look at the FordF150. In my opinion Ford has made greatstrides in improved quality, GM and Ram, not so much. I bought a 2012 Mustang GT in July of 2011and the car has not been back to the dealer other than for oil changes. I know a lot of Toyota owners think theAmerican vehicles are poor quality but if you take a closer look I think you’llsee Ford has come a long way over the past ten years or so. I hope I don’t regret buying a Ford truck overa Toyota but I really don’t think I will. Again I know the Tacoma is a great truck. I know the Toyota guys that hit the Toyota Kool-Aidhard are going to bash my decision but I figured I’d tell my story of how Iwent to buy a Tacoma and ended up with a F150.

Meh... if I was in the market for a full size truck I'd probably get the F150 too. They are nice trucks, enjoy!

I actually came to this forum because I was sure I wasbuying a Tacoma but it didn’t work out that way. My wife has a 2013 4R and we love it andwouldn’t hesitate to buy another Toyota. I just wanted to explain my journey from a Tacoma to a F150. Some of you guys have knocked Fordsreliability and not to many years ago that was certainly true but there hasbeen big improvements over recent years. If my needs change I’ll be back and the redesigned Tacoma will certainlyget another look. Thanks for all thegreat info you guys have shared.

If your f-150 is as reliable as my old car I'd be impressed. My Camry I had before my Tacoma was a tough car and it ran smooth heck I wish I still had it sometimes. But if your ford lasts over 100k miles with fee issues then I will change my mind about ford,

The domestic full-size trucks keep getting better and better quality-wise. The power and MPG they're getting now is really impressive. But the issue for me is they're so huge they're not enjoyable to drive, especially off-road. I love exploring off-road, and a 4x4 Tacoma is way more capable and fun right out of the box. I couldn't care less about towing ability, heated mirrors, leather interiors, multimedia screens or luxury doo-dads. And my low-mile used Tacoma PLUS a whole lifetime of fuel will still cost me less than a new full size 4x4. So a Tacoma just does everything I want better than a full-size truck, but with no car loan and no worries about MPG or the price of gas.

so far, URD throwout bearing kit(sleeve), weathertechs, 285/70/17's on Ion 17x9 and OME 885s and Dakars and nitro sports. BHLM
Now I'm a diehard Toyota guy but my wife grew up with fords. So when she needed a bigger vehicle with 4wd or Awd we looked at the options. As much as I tried getting her to get a 4runner she didn't like the looks of them. So we started looking at the Ford Edge Awd. I had heard a lot about Ford being so much better in the last few years and how reliable they were so we found one and bought it with like 60k on it. Well long story short we've had it for 1 year now and 2 weeks ago we spent 600 bucks on putting some seals in its oil leaking PTU. I looked at doing the job myself but it appeared I would have had to jerk the whole engine to change 2 seals on the transfer unit and read that it took multiple dealer only special tools to do the job, so to the dealer it went. It's not leaking now but 600 bucks and not being able to do it myself has left a bad taste in my mouth with Fords. I've never had a Toyota that I couldn't work on or that cost that much to put seals in. The Edge seems like a good quality vehicle but now I see its only the bells and whistles that make it seem that way. I'm ready for the 4runner now. Hope your F150 treats you well.

You have no say in the reliablity you hardly made friends with your truck yet,........ the people that have dogged on Fords reliablity have/had experience, until then enjoy the truck...hopefully!
