I'm just wondering if the truck kills the engine when no oil pressure is found.

Damn, that's one lucky track record. Of the 4 random new car dealerships I've had experience with, all four tried to pull shady stuff. That's not me working there, but as a customer.

Not saying anything bad about techs. Those guys just do their job. Most probably knowing a lot more about engines then me, some less. It's the people running the place that I don't trust.

I am with most everyone else on this. Some are forgetting the OP wasn't simply unlucky and get the one defective motor out of thousands. The dealer actually caused his motor damage. Ensuring the final oil level is a mandatory step in the oil fill process. And also failing to notice the red oil light still on?????????????!!!!!!!!! This is not warranty repair work it is damages caused by the dealer. Make it right or lawsuit time.

I would demand another truck with equivalent features and the same or less mileage. Second to that I might accept reluctantly a brand new engine installed. A rebuilt engine is not acceptable for an almost new vehicle, they almost never last as long as factory engine.

I think considering the low mileage, I would tend to side with a replacement truck. Not that I think they would actually do it, but With it being the very first oil change....

I think the best case situation would be a new engine.

I would personally try to get a trade from the dealer. Switch trucks to the new one pay off the difference of the miles.

People make mistakes. Hopefully they make it right by the owner.

This is not good but happens. Just not good when its yours. In 40+ years have had it happen less than 5 times. In the last 10 years I can remember only twice. Both times we fixed it and gave the customer a 125K Toyota Extended Warranty. Never a problem. What is odd is the time line. The norm is 7 or 8 miles?

It's probably a liability insurance claim for the dealer rather than a warranty issue. Their insurance company would have to get me another equivalent truck or a new motor assembled by the Toyota factory wherein no part on the motor, including the block itself had more than 4500 miles.

    back to bone stock.
my last truck was a chevy. i had an oil leak and before the warranty expired, i had the dealer fix it.

happy as a clam, i drove about. picking up a motorcycle..my motor grenades. loud ticking, power evaporated. i suspected a spun bearing. i see a chevy dealership in a town up ahead, and just parked it..left a note, and tossed the keys into "night drop". a buddy picked me up.

a few days later a service rep calls me. he said there was wire brush bristles in the oil pan..whoever did the gasket change used a powered wheel to clean the surfaces..hahah.. i said.."new motor please". he said "huh?"..i told him to look in the glove compartment and see the receipt where a chevy dealership did the work..

my truck was up and running in four days. those guys put in the motor fast.

i would scream bloody murder here. the Lexus dealer ship didnt tighten up the drain plug and the motor oil dumped on a friend. she got a new lexus when the dealership bought hers. her motor sounded fine..but she screamed bloody murder.

This is what should happen if the dealership doesnt want to make it right by the owner. Personaly, I think he should be civil and calm. Dont raise a Sh** storm unless absolutley needed.

I hope the OP lets in on the dealers response.

I have been in dealers service areas before when there was a problem, but I could bend a little if they agreed to video the whole shooten match. Otherwise if they refused I would sue and take it to another dealer after settlement.
