The hole where most people ( and myself) run their winch cables through cut one of my wires and it arc'd & tripped my breaker, lesson learned then I put some 1500 kcmil jacket around the hole with electrical tape lol

 

i was talking about wire temp from over-amping, not ambient temp. assuming you don't melt the solder, the higher surface area contact would be beneficial in an over-amp situation. we're talking rare/emergency situations at this point of course.

 

i upgraded to marine shield cable, and then sleved it with fuel hose where it goes through that hole. definitely a place to keep an eye on with unprotected cable.

 

I think as long as you use cable rated at over 25% max load you'll be fine, the only times I've seen terminations get hot enough to melt was due to a poor crimp on a lug, the wire shorts & the cable welds itself to whatever it was touching. Of course I'm no expert in DC by any means, this was all AC I'm talking.

 

exactly. our talk is based on underrated cable and connections, or improper joints. I over rate everything i wire as well, just in case.

I made the mistake of starting an excel spreadsheet to keep track of the mods on Smokey. I'm including the actual prices I've paid for everything when I can find the old invoices. Damn, should have been happy with just a guestimate.

Bullets falling at terminal velocity won't kill you, hurt like a mofo but no death. Bullets fired at angles are deadly. I wish I had arab money, AMG's all over the place and a auto sear for my AK!
