    Here's the dilemma:

My dad currently drives a 1990 Nissan Hardbody pickup. It doesn't run very well.

My mom drives a 2003 Camry.

I have the 2008 Tacoma. (Yes I worked hard for it and I make the payments.)

Both of my parents work for the state and have suffered greatly in their paychecks. I am currently making a decent amount of money (more than my mom  ) at my job for a restaurant company (Garden Fresh).

We are afraid the Nissan doesn't have much left in it, so this weekend we are going to sell it in the "Cash for Clunkers" program with a trade-in. Or we will just sell it on Craigslist or something if that doesn't work out. Either way, it's going soon.

My mom and dad were looking at the Nissan Versa and the Toyota Yaris, which would be my dad's commuting car since he works about 30 miles away.

I was thinking I would let my mom have the truck, my dad can drive the Camry, and I could look into either an old 4Runner or Jeep. I could then (hopefully) purchase a brand new Tacoma within the next few years, as this has been my dream truck for quite some time. It would sadden me to let it go to my mom, but I have to look out for my family. :)

I would also take the aftermarket parts off the Tacoma and sell them for a few bucks.

This seems to be the cheapest option. I haven't really discussed it with my parents yet, I'm just thinking about it in my head.

The insurance would be cheaper for me, since I would be in an older car, and the insurance rates wouldn't go up for having a brand new car.

    What do you guys think?

I am sorry to hear about this man.

Props to you for looking out for your family.

I am pretty sure the insurance would be cheaper for you if you got an older car. As for the cash for clunkers program that is going on, I also told my parents about it. It sounds like a good deal in which people are taking advantage of.

I hope all goes swell with you and your family man. I hate this economy

Derek, this is a very admirable thing of you to do, and I have utmost respect for you. :)

I think that it is a great idea, and I'm glad that you are thinking about the rest of the family. :)

    Thanks guys!

I'll run everything by my parents tomorrow, I'm really hoping they agree to it. It would make me very happy. I know some of the details in my original post are a little iffy, but we can hammer those out when the time comes.

take care of the familly first, just borrow your truck for some trails, insurance will drop but not as much as you think since you are still young. Karma will come back around and get you that new truck. I would hurry up if you are going to do that cash for clunkers deal since that program is just about out of money. Good luck.

I think we're going tomorrow! But if we decide my plan would work best, we would have to sell it privately. We wouldn't get as much money as the "Cash for Clunkers" program, but I still think it would be a lot cheaper to get an old truck for me than a brand new car for my dad. He loves the Camry anyways, so I think he'd be happy driving that.

If I get anything, it would be a 4X4, so don't worry, I would still be hitting the trails with you guys. :D

That's nice of you to do what your doing derek. Especially at our age of 18 already looking out for your family. Shit you making payments for your truck at the age of 18 and I'm over here complaining about parents not giving me enough money or paying for my mods. I have shitload of respect for you now and hope all goes well with you and your family! Sounds like you need to make some moves that you dont want at all but will do to keep family on wheels as well. Hopefully everything gets better and you will end up having your tacoma back. Good Luck with whatever happens!
