Keep in mind... Working in parts retail (autozone) counts as the required 2 year experience on the field to become ASE certified.

OK, here's the scoop. Met the service manager this morning at 7AM. we discussed the situation, and agreed that I would be present when they pulled the oil pan. After inspection of the pan, there was not any shavings or debris found. Filled it up with oil, and started right up.

Then did some diagnostics, and testing. Oil pressure at startup and idle were within specs. They also tested how quick the engine would shut down when loss of oil pressure occurred. it immediately shut down. It somewhat convinced me that the horrific damage that I thought happened, might not have been, buttttt before any decision was to be made, I wanted to talk to the general manager.

At the meeting with the GM, we discussed the chain of events leading to the breakdown. he apologized for the incident, and asked what he could do for me. I said, lets start with a new engine. He hemmed and hawed, and said, there's a better solution to the problem.

He offered me a lifetime unlimited warranty for the power train at no charge, and he explained his reasoning. he said, lets say you start to have problems with the engine in the future, there's no money out of you pocket. If needed you get a reman engine, and start from scratch with a new engine.

I decided to take the deal. I know that a lot of you would not have taken the deal, unless it was a new engine, new truck etc.

I learned a lot from all of you. Your comments helped me with my decision, and I thank all of you Very Much.

Good for you! As long as you keep it should be good shape. I would say its a lifetime truck!

Can't wait for the responses to this one. Lots of "you should haves" to come.

I think it is the best outcome, maybe better than a new truck in trade.

Happened to me with my brand new 08 wrangler rubicon. Had to replace the motor, showed up on carfax and depreciated my jeep by 3.5k. Luckily I was able to sell it to my brother.

I like how this worked for YOU.....and how you kept your wit; no need to be anything BUT a customer until they treat YOU unfairly..

Now you have a warranty backed by all parties on a truck you purchased from them.....they saved their CSR and earned a customers respect....

A rare experience in todays world and I am glad it worked for you....enjoy that Tacoma for many years to come...

    Guilty as charged.

I'm comin' on 40, and I was born into central Wisconsin farm country, so you can lop another 10-20 years off the 'technology level' of the time.

My first car to learn to drive was a '56 chevy station wagon with a 3 on the tree. In roughly 1980.

That all said, glad to hear this worked out for the OP.

Not sure I'd have taken the same deal or not, I'm a suspicious bastard at heart. But props for treating the situation like a rational adult and solving the issue to everyone's advantage without the use of force or lawyers.

Yea, that sounds better then a new engine. Make sure you're covered though for the long run. Would suck if that dealer moved or closed a year from now, leaving you high and dry.
