I went from a 2010 crew cab silverado ltz and couldn't wait to get into one of the new fords. The gas mileage was terrible. It never left town as I work for the railroad and when we go out of town we take my wife's car. It averaged about 12 miles to the gallon just putting around town. I've had it into the Ford dealer here in town twice with alignment issues that they haven't been able to fix. We also recently had our 1st child and needed the crew cab. I know that you're going to think I'm crazy but the child seat and base fit better in the crew cab Tacoma then it did in the Extended cab F-150. Not to mention that the F-150 wasn't holding its value. KBB, Edmunds, NADA all showed my truck being worth 32K+ for trade. The Ford dealer was actually the one that offered me the least on the trade. They explained it to me that it was because Ford offers such crazy rebates and it actually drives down the price of trucks like mine. The Toyota dealer in Wichita claimed the only reason they were giving me so much for trade is because it was the end of the month and they had a slow month and the fact that I was buying a truck that wasn't even there yet. Who knows...I hate dealing with car salesmen it's always a numbers scam with them. Either way back to the point I've done a lot of research and nothing out there beats the way that a Tacoma holds its value. Add in the fact that I need a crew cab due to the increase in family size, the improved gas mileage, cheaper tags, cheaper insurance, I don't haul any trailers or big loads but still have the pickup ability to do small "honey-dos" and the fact that my truck will sit down at the railroad depot for days on end there is no point in me needing a full size, loaded pickup, oh and the payment is almost $200 a month cheaper.

I was impressed with the 2013 F-150 4x4 I rented last summer in Colorado. I averaged 19mpg with the smaller engine...I think 4.0L? Tons of room for me and the kids inside. The only bugging thing that I hate about FORD is the Sync. Too many buttons and too much clutter on the dash with the stupid Sync system. I also don't like the column shifter that was on the Ford and would rather have the center-shifter even if it is an automatic. Overall the ride was smooth and I was impressed with the cargo space inside and in the bed. Would I buy an F-150 and trade in my Taco because of it hell NO but for my next truck if I decide to go full size (which I most likely will) then I will be looking at the F-150 closely.

Hmm.. I had an 02 F150 with 150k miles. Not one problem with the truck. Started every time without hesitation, no driveline vibrations/issues, leaf springs worked, trans shifted correctly, frame didn't rust, didn't have to put in higher octane fuel to quiet the engine, could jump on the tailgate without worry, no weird whistle noise, etc..

Congrats on the truck. I would of kept that truck if it wasn't a single cab.

If I was to go full size it would be a Ford, my first 2 vehicles were an Expedition and an F-150. I just really enjoy the compactness of the Taco, and I also happen to love Toyotas in general. I find it kind of hard to trust Ford reliability when they are changing things every 3-4 years. I love to see these Toyota motors doing 10+ yr cycles in multiple different vehicles, it really bodes well to their reliability IMHO.

I can understand the op's position, its hard to get used to something different. Ive had a chevy 1500, ford mustang, ram 2500, ram 1500, jeep wrangler unlimited, ram 2500 again and now the toyota.. and im only 26 lol... However i love my new taco, I loved the jeep but i needed a truck and I know i will get bashed for this but my taco reminds me of my jeep but with a truck bed. I see having this truck for a very long time its everything i need and want

I used to be a Ford fanatic. But then I had an 01 F-150 POS, an 05 Mustang GT POS, and "the last straw" an 06 F-250 6.0L Diesel UBER POS. After my wife pleaded with me I bought a Toyota and haven't drove anything else since.

To the OP: I hope you have better luck than I did b/c I'll never go back to a Ford.

    LOL. Tacomas don't have issues!!
I had a 2000 F150. The only issue I had was front end (tie rods, ball joints and such).
Everything else was rock solid. But I got fuckall for it when I sold it.

i dont know.... history tends to be a good indicator of build quality.

dad 89 yota pickup.... sold it with 250k miles on it all original... current owner still drives it with over 400k all original

dads current 04 taco 200k miles no issues

moms 07 4 runner 90k miles no issues.

Buddies 03 4 runner 220k miles... no issues

Moms 97 Ford f150, 2 transmissions and 2 rear axles

buddies 97 ford f150... 50k miles... tranmission and motor needed to be replaced

buddies gf's 02 ford explorer 90k miles... motor transmission and tcase needed to be replaced

.... i could continue this but in every case in my circle of friends and family... if they owned a ford it was trouble... a yota no trouble.

    This

There are several guys here who say "This will be the last truck I buy" "It's gonna last me ten years." Hell if you're happy with your purchase then that's all that matters congrats dude. I think if I were to get a full size it'd probably be a Chevy them duramax's <3 lol

I had several Chevy in the past and so my friends w/ Ford. They just leak oil like hell after 80K. Just sick. My 02 Sienna is still clean as hell. No oil leak.

You just listed 4 vehicles with a total of almost a MILLION miles. And ZERO issues. I straight up don't believe that.

Funny you should mention that, there have been plenty of Fords in my family with well over 80k miles and they ran perfectly well when we got rid of them. Oh and, none of the leaked or burned oil... Cool story though
