man fuck career fairs. most of the time the people there arent the ones you want to meet any way. im not sure ive ever heard people place career fairs very high on the recommended way to network

sorry to hear you have to put in 14 hours a day for 6 days a week. i mean each semester im doing 15 credits of 300 and 400 level classes, and its not like accounting is easy, but i dont spend NEAR that much time on hw and studying. maybe my classes have yet to get harder still? but the general consensus is that intermediate accounting 2 is about the hardest class of the degree, so im waiting to turn into you ben. for now, i just got off work and went boarding and played in the powder and had a fucking kick ass monday!

I told school to fuck off and haven't really looked back since. I take a class that counts towards my CM degree every now and then, but I work more than full time and rarely find time for school. I have a great job (at least I think so) and enjoy what I do. I follow the build your career around your lifestyle, not your lifestyle around your career mantra and it's been working for me so far. I basically set my own schedule and poke my head in the office just enough to make sure people remember I'm still an employee. I get paid a good salary, was bought a 2013 AC 4x4 Tacoma to drive that I'm allowed to use for personal use, a company CC, fuel card, and cell phone. I personally don't really see a reason to really get back into school unless I get tired of being my own boss and want to work in the office. I get paid to be outside, so I don't see myself moving into the office any time soon.

 

With some cutting and sewing anything is possible

 

I actually met the person that hired me for my current job at a career fair. She was head of the region at the time. I knew the other person at the booth so I kinda had a foot in the door. But most of the time when the "company" has people at the fair, there are no jobs.

word. I was so burned out after 2 years of 18 hour days..just done.

 

I'm getting close to this point, my ideal job puts job experience above a degree, and i'm 99% sure i have a job at a shop in VA (when the deer hits start piling up).
And my "dream job" isn't calling as loud as it once was.

as time goes on a degree is only going to be required more and more in every field because so many people will have them, i wouldnt cut out the idea of sticking in school quite yet.

 

I can't wait for 8 hours out in the heat this summer. After the classroom stuff. Driving big trucks, climbing, crawling, dragging hose lol all in 80 pounds of gear. Sound fun to anyone else?

 

NOPE! Im going to thoroughly enjoy my cozy desk and office downtown ill go outside and do physical work on my own terms

 

The real fun is being in the metal burn tower in 95+ degree weather with all your gear on and a fire lit lol

I'm keeping my options open.

Finish this semester, move to MS with the family, contact the local auto body shops to see if they have full or part time work, and if i can find 2 with consistent part time (or, ideally 1 with full time) work, work as much as possible for 2 semesters.
Then scale back to part time work and take 2 classes a semester and see how it works.

OR

Call around to the shops i know in VA to see if they have full or part time work, invest in a small (1/2 acre) piece of property, put a small camper on it, and just live and work up there for a while and after a couple of semesters see about the really nice school they have up there.

My degree will most likely be in either auto body tech or auto tech.
I'm going for a 2 year degree, and any additional training should be handled by employers.

 

And then that's when the skilled trades will be lacking in manpower and will be paying well for people who are qualified to do the work. Shit, I make close to $60k/year inspecting railroad tracks. No real schooling; mostly OTJ training and a few training/proficiency courses every so often. I take a few distance learning courses throughout the year, but I get a few months to do each course and there's no actual classroom time required. I'm not saying that a college degree isn't important, I'm just saying I don't think it's as important as it's made out to be and it definitely isn't for everyone.
