New to GoPro, just got one for christmas. Was wondering if mine has normal low light performance. I have the Hero3 White and in low light there are these vertical bars in the dark areas. Here's a video of night driving that shows it well:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukrjMX_hnzI

I contacted GoPro support about it and the said it's normal for the Hero3 White (and recommended upgrading to a Hero3+ Black :jerkoff: ). Anyone else with a Hero3 White get the same kind of low light performance?

ya I have the gopro white edition as well, it has the lowest quality of the 3 cameras and I have the same lowlight performance. If you want good lowlight performance, you gotta get the black edition gopro, best one they have

Thanks, I'm not that concerned with the low light performance, not looking to make professional videos or anything. The bars just seemed odd and was curious if GoPro was jerking me around or not.

hehe no prob, ya its normal to have that kind of quality for the White Edition for lowlight, it only has a 5mp camera while the silver/black have 11/12mp cameras

Anyone ever have an issue where your video plays back fine on your camera but after loading it on your computer it's jumpy? My video from this past weekend seems to be showing every other frame but sound is correct?! This only is happening on my computer.

All that is saying is that playing video from an SD card will be slow because reading from the card is slow.

If you are running Windows. Check the disk fragmentation. When a disk is full (less than around 20% free space), there might not be enough contiguous space to write the file and it may end up as many fragments-this causes poor read performance too.

Some other things that can cause playback problems include; not enough free memory or maybe running other CPU intensive applications. You can add swap space or more memory to solve the memory issues or kill the CPU intensive stuff.

I believe when viewing the video from the camera it's using a low resolution version of the video. Could be the full resolution version isn't recording properly? Do you possibly have a slower speed SD card? Maybe that's causing it to not record properly.

Mine does that at times when I try to play videos off my SD card. As long as I move it to my computer before watching it I have no issues. I have a Class 10 SD card and it still does it to me.

Follow up from choppy play back issue…
After a I loaded the clips into the go pro studio editor it fixed the choppy playback and converted the file from a .mp4 to .mov and everything worked out. The editor was pretty easy to use.

Just curious what SD card you guys are using and what setting you film the most in? With the weather getting better, I'm hoping to really use it and film better.

I use a 32gb SD and usually record in 1080p superview or 1080p regular wide view. Sometimes I knock it down to the level below 1080. Just FYI, for my phone you can't watch the 1080 superview through the app. But if you have a phone with expandable memory like a Galaxy, you can put the SD card in and watch everything in fantastic resolution. Also, rendering videos on the computer takes much longer with 1080.
