They are old military tires. They only come in 37x12.50R16.5

He got them from Trail Worthy Fab.

Old? Brand new, still have the tits on em! lol. I looked at the code on the sidewall, and they were made in 2009, so not new production, but less than 100 miles on them I'd say. What do you expect for $200 each?

Well. They are supposed to be "old military tires" as in used. haha

I did notice that yours still had the tits on them though:thumbsup: I wonder why they Army ditched an unused set or several for that matter:notsure: Did they stop using the tires or what? I've never actually seen a humvee not running Goodyears.

Rumor has it that there was a small production run of BFG's with a thinner sidewall based off the KRT carcass not the Project carcass. They would not fit with the 24 bolt beadlocks so the Army put out some directive to shitcan all of them, just in case. Thanks for paying your taxes! Also it has been my experience that when hummers sit for long periods of time they develop slow leaks in the beadlock O-ring. Army mechanics chuck the entire wheel and tire assembly and just put a new one on, because it is much easier than breaking down a 24 bolt beadlock to replace a stupid O-ring. It took me 14 hours total to break down four 12 bolt beadlocks and replace the tires, so figure 3.5 hours per tire. Ain't nobody got time for that on Active duty.

You'd be surprised what the .gov throws away. Click around here a little, there is even a DRMO in Boise although they don't have much for sale right now. http://www.govliquidation.com/

That makes sense. I could definitely see them throwing them out then.

Can you not get an impact on the bead locks? I would think that would make short work of 12 bolts. haha

Got a pic of you wheels? I'm browsing the site and man they have a fuck ton of options for wheels haha. Even trying to decide a color combo is tricky I was thinking just black it all out but that looks kinda odd with the black tire. Maybe black rock rings a a color for the wheel. haha

Well, I did use an impact. The thing is there is so much pressure on that outer ring that if you just started removing nuts all willy nilly the last few you remove would strip out. You have to "unload" them, sequentially. The inverse is true on assembly. You torque them in three stages, and if you say fuck it and hammer down you will break a stud. This time I only stripped one, but last time I broke 8. The light blue thing in the pic is a PVC runflat, not the ones like the hummer has. TWF makes them. [IMG]

I painted mine OD green center with semi-gloss black outer.

I was just reading up on all that. haha Do you like the half rings? I was trying to decide if they would be enough for me of if I should just get the full rock rings.

Makes sense on stripping the nuts. What do you torque them too?

If you could do it again, would you stick with 12 bolts or go to 8 bolts?

I like the half rings because you still have access to the studs, but the full rings look cooler. I'll be honest, I don't own a torque wrench but I would guess 5 ft lbs the first time around, 15 the second, and 25 for the final, with one last check where I always find one or two that has loosened due to the clamping forces involved. About as tight as you can get them without moving a 150lb tire on clean concrete...whatever that is. I would stay with 12 bolts. I haven't had any leak issues, and the 12's are a LOT stronger than the 8's. The 24's are stronger yet, and if I was building a one ton crawler or big diesel I would use those. The most time consuming process is not the nuts. It is breaking the bead on both sides. Due to the beadlock, you can't use a normal tire machine. I don't have a trucker style bead breaker, so I use motorcycle spoons. Not ideal, but it gets the job done. I methodically work around the bead for a few revolutions until it pops off. On one, I got mad and used a hi-lift to break the bead. It worked, but I would not try it with tires I cared about. I was to the point that I was about to grab the sawzall and cut the tire off the rim lol. They are hard work, but at least you can do it yourself and don't have to pay the tire man anymore.

Speaking of paying the tire man. Do you use balancing beads on them or just run them like they are?

I used 2500 airsoft bb's per tire last set. This set I used nothing, and they ride better. Go figure.

It's not the fastest thing in the world that's for sure, but man the features are unreal, the predictive braking, adaptive cruise control, reclining rear seats is kind of neat

Actually, prepare your anus should have been down in a thick redwood forest scene. Perhaps with a minuscule photoshopped ewok.

Tire Groovers are pretty sweet! The guy I wheel with that has the Pathfinder did this to his 40's (I think they are his 40's anyway) using Konsta's groover.
