I'm slowly putting the truck back together. When I took the carpet out it was SOAKED and the stock crappy padding that was attached to it had to be ripped off. I ended up just buying some home carpet pad at Home Depot to replace it with. I wasn't quite as conservative as Toyota was. Needless to say, there's a lot more down there now and everything has a layer under it. This is in addition to the MLV and closed cell foam that I already had under there. I'm interested to see how this affects things.

Now that the carpet is back in I'll be reinstalling the amp and processor tomorrow. I'm hoping both work but we'll see. I'm thinking that I'll redo my front stage very soon as well. I'm hoping to get stuff FUNCTIONAL first and then redo what's up front. New tweeters possibly and new midbass units for sure. Stay tuned.

I've thoroughly enjoyed my focal components. Super expensive but the best you can buy IMO

He is running active, so Focal drivers probably aren't the best use of his funds. I would imagine he will be using a DIY speaker... Scanspeak, Seas, SB, Morel...

Speaking of DIY drivers...Italyn, I have some SB17NRXC35-4 that I need to hurry up and cut an adapter for, and then I may need to contact you about tuning with the MS8. I am pretty sure it can do what I want now, but I may need a little advice re: how crazy I can go with the EQ.

I am also planning to build some fullrange home audio speakers. I have a Planet10 design in mind, but I may be asking your advice on that as well. I saw some of your older posts on diyaudio.com, and you built some pretty impressive towers.

Now back to our regularly scheduled thread...

Yeah dude just hit me up via PM or email. In fact, you're like 15 minutes from me. If you ever need help working on stuff like tuning the MS8 we could totally meet up.

And I think I'm going to be using some Peerless HDS 8" midbass drivers. I'm not for sure yet but we'll see. Speaking of Focal, I once upon a time had some Focal 6w4311b drivers in my Lexus. Those things were VERY nice. I've always thought about getting another pair but it's probably not gonna happen. I've also wanted to try the Scan Revelators too but they're quite expensive.

I may try to meet up with you sometime. I need to get your opinion on the Markaudio CHR-70, as that is what I want to use in my MLTL build.

I was the USA Mark Audio dealer for about a year and a half. It's good stuff for sure. I actually have two pair (new) of the Silver most recent generation CHR70's in the boxes in my garage. I'm not planning on using them for anything so if you end up picking the CHR70 you could grab a set from me and save on shipping.

Good news gents....I reinstalled everything today and it all works fine!

I was really scared I'd fried about $1300 in equipment that sat under my seats but it seems it's ok so far.

I'm still going to change up my front stage but I have yet to figure out what I'll be using. I have some Peerless HDS8's in the garage right now that haven't had a fair use yet. I'd originally bought them for when I was trying to put together a component kit for you guys and really only tested them out for that purpose. I'm thinking about giving them a go.

I also think I need to give the doors a little more attention in terms of deadening. I've never put any CLD on my door panels but I think I might try a little. I also plan to do a thin layer of silicone on the edges to prevent any rattles. You know, just in case ;)

    Great news!

Those Peerless HDS's would be high on the list. IIRC, these were a prime candidate with a tweet that will play as low as your new one...

I have CLD'd the door panels in other vehicles, and this one looks like a great candidate for one or 2 tiles, behind the door pocket area, especially with certain drivers.

I am excited to get these dang tweets in, but now I have to wait for the RCA splitters to work with the XD... And friday it is looking like rain... And I need to do my plugs... Sunday is superbowl. Where does time go?

I am in the exact same spot. I need to finishing sealing up my rear doors so that I can get the door panels back on. I need to cut the adapter so I can install my new SB Acoustics in the front doors. I am building a set of bookshelf speakers for a friend that is planning to visit in the next few weeks, and my wife and I are starting to renovate both our master bath and kitchen.

Thankfully I finished my last "race" of the season (Houston Marathon), and I don't plan to do any real bike racing this year, so my training schedule is at a 12 month low.

It is all self-inflicted, but it is still exhausting.

So I have been reading your thread and I have to say; Wow! Your system sounds like it must be incredible to listen to. I have a DB, with my shallow 10" sub behind the rear seat, but I wanted to put it under the rear seats like you have done. Do you think it would be possible to fit a 10" or 13" sub under the seats? and also do you have to do shallows or is there enough room to do a normal depth sub? Good luck with your endeavor.

I've been stalking on this thread too and I just purchased my Tacoma Dbl Cab about 2 weeks ago. I listened to the stereo and realized that it probably has to be the first upgrade for me, stock sounds like crap.

I second these questions. What can fit under there? I am also wondering if there is an option other than fiberglassing the compartment. Or would my best bet be to just go with a behind the seat box?

The flange for a 10 is simply too big. It's larger than the area of the bin. The biggest you can get in there is an 8" woofer. Someone else tried the Alpine TypeR 8" woofer and they seem to like them. I like my ED subs but I'm curious about the Alpine's too.

Italyn, Love your system! It is what is driving me to not want to settle for a simple behind the seat box. I've spent a few hours now looking into how to fiber glass and such. I've never done anything like that, but I think I could handle it. It doesnt look incredibly difficult.

If I did actually do it I would have 2 issues:

Cutting the metal of the truck
Permanant fiber glass under the seats

Could I not make the enclosure slightly smaller so it could be removed? Is it possible to do without modifying the lip of the opening?

Also, would you definitely recommend the two 8"s over the four 6"s you had before?

You think some Sundown sd-2 8" woofer would fit down there?

I'm willing to sell the top baffle piece but it should be known that it requires a lot of modification to prep the bin area to accept the baffle as a "top" to seal it as an enclosure. It's not something you can just pop on really.

    Unknow
    Many
Dc audi, sundown and other brands make some Very beastly 8 inch subs that will put most of the main brand jl/kenwood/alpine speakers to shame.

I know of a guy w a single 8 inch sub achieving over 150db Db drag sealed on the dash.-- just saying. take a look at these brands as they would most likely give the greatest advantage achievable in this truck

BUT a 150db is just the number it put out, but doesnt take into account the work and power associated with that. You say sealed, which means big amp, and tons of power, which means bigger cables and bigger alternator, which means tons of money.

Not product bashing but I think for the everyday consumer your Alpine Type R's, Image Dynamics IDQ 8's etc are great for what they do, beside tell me without ripping up the back of the truck, besides the bins, where would that motor structure fit?
