Yeah, I just took it apart and cleaned off the brushes, let it dry overnight and put it back in. Good as new. Meanwhile Eddie watched as Ant and Scott replaced his for him.

Only once. I then bought replacement brushes and the control module as backup since that's about the only thing that goes wrong and is far cheaper, smaller, lighter than a whole alternator.

 

Did yours stopped working while you were in a water hole or it happened later on?

 

All jokes aside.... are going to wait and see if things get worse on this current motor or you gonna throw the new motor in eventually?

 

Battery light came on shortly after I had been bombing through water. Once we got back to camp checked the voltage and it was low.

 

if you need to do a swap, I have an engine lifter.

 

Did you do the cleaning right there and then at the camp or did it make home?

Whatsup guys, havent been on in a while, busy with work and stuff. Hopefully ill be joining you guys on some more meets soon. Wheres everyone going this weekend?

 

Stalking you from afar. Yeah I figure why not. Seems like only a couple taco guys can come out so it isn't worth running 2 groups. Besides if the rangers come up on you guys I'll just break away into the hidden shadows of the NJ pines.

 

No. Arb makes safari snorkel. It is specific for the hilux but it is able to fit on a Tacoma. The "air flow usa" or something like that is the Tacoma specific one.


My take on the snorkel is that I don't regret adding it but if I were to build another truck for the same purpose of my current one, I wouldn't get a snorkel for it.
I do not like going through deep water or mud of any kind. I like dirt roads/trails, and rock crawling.

The thing I dislike the most about the snorkel is that it makes you vulnerable . You now can hydro lock your motor without even driving through a deep puddle. I could be parked at work and someone thinks they're being nice and hoses the salt off my truck and not know what the snorkel is and pour water in it. Then if I try to fire up my truck later I could be in for a nasty surprise. As Scott calls it, it can be a "water injection device".

Say good bye to drive through car washes forever, which this time Of the year kinda sucks.

And don't count on a 2 mpg increase. May depend on the vehicle and weight etc, but I never saw more than a 1 mpg increase and I installed my snorkel when I was on stock tires and stock bumpers with no skids and possibly no sliders.

What is the plan this weekend?

 

The 4runner thing at frenchies on saturday. theres a ton of 4r guys, jeepers and other dudes going. No crazy wheeling, but just running the pit for a while and a few trails. I'll be there assuming we get all my shit done Friday I don't wanna lose my sway bar while 3 wheeling again in the same spot.

But I will add that anytime I do have to drive through deep water I'm happy I have it.


And also you can't go blasting through puddles sending up a huge spray because that will go in your snorkel if you don't turn the head around. And I've seen people driving in heavy snow storms have to turn the head around too. Bob (NYCO) had a ton of snow in his airfilter

Everyone loves going through deep water.....no one likes the issues it brings with it.

Every time Ive seen you guys go through a stream or ice laden lake when you get to the other side you're smiles ear to ear.
