So i am having a big issue with my bench. As soon as i start getting tired i am tweaking my left side to use more shoulder or something to push it up the rest of the way. And i get to a point where i have a hard time locking out the left side. It really pisses me off when i start doing this because theres nothing i can do to stop it besides going light and than i start doing it again when i get tired at light weight. Any ideas? And its only on barbell. Dumbells its completely fine.

incorporate heavy dips and overhead press into your chest routine. also use leg and hip drive at the bottom of the rep to help control the weight and round your upper back to cut out some shoulder involvement.

also idk if you are comfortable with suicide grip, it cuts out some of the internal shoulder rotation, but make sure you use chalk on the bar to prevent slipping.

Edit: scratch that lol i don't want you to drop the bar on yourself and come to me, stick with overhand grip.

lol k i will give it a shot. I have tried arching my upper back between my shoulder blades and it seems to help a little bit i feel like i move after each rep and than forget to keep doing it. I am gonna rest a few days and try again.

it helps to think traps and shoulder as one, and place them on the bench first before your ass, also make sure to have your feet under your legs/behind your knee for maximum glute flex and really drive your feet into the ground when it comes time to press.

K i think i am going to drop most of the weight and focus totally on form because i think thats my biggest road block right now. Each day is hit or miss with how much weight i can put up. Some days it feels great and others it feels like 500lbs.

good thinking, it's better to have consistency than hit and miss.

Why would you put shoulders on bench before ass....? Curious how you typically sit down...

A lot of ppl think more weight = more muscle, which is wrong.
I get the "looks" when I use light weights since people don't expect me to go light but I do every 12 week. (6 week light 3x20 reps/6 weeks heavier 3X10 reps/6week heavy 3x5) however I'm one of the bigger gys in the gym, and I can tell you after going heavy for 6 week the 3x20 light will hurt!

I see the worst mistakes lifting too heavy weight, because ppl are focused more on weight than on the actual exercise. If you are training chest today all that matters is chest, if you don't feel and control the contraction in your chest, stop right there, drop weight and focus on the contraction of the muscle. If you don't control the weight and movement 100% of the time, just stop and leave because it's a waste of time.

Gotta love genetics lol. I explained it to a friend that some people have baseball-shaped biceps and some people have football-shaped biceps lol. I'm right in the middle, so when I have a pump, they look great, but un-pumped, they're not that impressive.

I'm super cereal. I'm losing the fight against genetics in the quest for cannons. One day maybe.
