Bonus = TRD Exhaust or other or none?

Turns out I am getting a bonus at work I was not expecting. I would like some growl on my 2013 V6 Taco Shortbed. I have been listening to youtube videos with different exhaust systems and have been reading the forums here, but cannot decide. I am not looking for obscene, just want the strong truck sound. I am leaning towards TRD since I had the comparable Toyota upgraded exhaust on my last vehicle and loved it (IS350 F Sport Exhaust).

On the other hand, I am concerned I will get a crappy one that either cannot be heard or is annoying. HELP !

The TRD exhaust is nice but not a whole lot louder than stock. I got an 18 inch magnaflow muffler catback with 3" piping and love it. the TRD piping is 2.75" I believe. The magnaflow is loud when i step on it but doesn't have much drone when I'm cruising. Hope this helps!

    Some stuff...
I thought that the TRD was a bit loud when I first got it, but it broke in nicely. TRD is perfect for my taste - not too loud, and not too quiet IMO.

if you're just looking for a nice growl, why not just get a weld in muffler and save yourself a few hundred $$$?

flowmaster, magnaflow, wickedflow, aero turbine, all make great sounding mufflers that will give you a good sound but not break the bank.

fwiw, i have an aero turbine and its a nice deep tone, not too loud, not too quiet

    TRD exhaust?

Does this normally come on the TRD packages, or is it purchased separately?

Toyota sells them aftermarket or they come in some packages. There area bunch of TRD accessories to choose from, like brakes, suspension parts, etc.

Just my opinion, I had the Magnaflow welded into my stock piping when I first got my truck. It drove me crazy...lasted about a week before I had the stock welded back on. I guess for me, a V8 is the only exhaust sound I really want to hear daily.

I like the TRD exhaust. It isn't too loud when just driving around, but has a little throaty sound when accelerating. Also its stainless so it should last forever if that matters.

I have to agree. There is a Baja that goes by my house from time to time and I don't like the exhaust nearly as much as I thought I would. I am not one to hate loud exhaust, my Subaru can be heard from a quarter mile away, but on the truck it just doesn't sound "right" to me.

Then again I'm slowly turning into an old man I suppose. I haven't even touched the stereo in this one yet.

I put on an MBRP cat back dual system in stainless and added a Vibrant resonator in the front head pipe. This system has a great look and sound, and the resonator took nearly all the raspiness out. Yes, I realize it's all for show, but it's increased my enjoyment and other Tacoma owners ask about it. It's well made and should hold up. I'm old enough to remember when all V-type engines had duals, so it suits me.

I had the stock bracket break in my 4-Runner and developed a small hole in the pipe. It sounded wicked; I really loved it. Eventually I had to replace it but until that time I had the most awesome throaty growl, not loud or annoying, just a tough guy sound. I recommend you just get out there with a small sledge and whack it a few times here and there until it's partly broken. ;)

Ahshiet, (love the name btw) wondering what kind of paint you used? Like a high temp engine block paint? I'm in the process of removing the chrome on my truck and my TRD exhaust tip is on the list. How it it holding up? Thanks!

I have had the aeroturbine 2525xl on my truck dropping just between the frame and spare and I love it. you can't really hear it on freeway and it is still quite in town. it gets a little loud of course if you put your foot in it but I love it.

If you want something that's gonna last, get something other than steal.
I don't have experience with stainless - but I would assume a stainless setup will last much longer.

I had an aftermarket flowmaster on mine - loved the sound....but it only lasted 4 years. It ended up rusting small holes at the muffler. I took it off and went back to stock.
