Hey guys, so I've got this really annoying clunk that sounds like its coming from the driver side rear end of my tacoma. It happens when you go around a corner and flex the suspension at the same time. Like the street corners that have a small ditch for water to run through. Sounds almost like a 2x4 or something is rolling around in the bed. The baffling part is that it only occurs when its pretty cold out, like below 30 degrees f. The spare tire is tight, there's no hitch in the receiver, and the rear shocks are tight. Any help would be great!

I've been chasing the same problem since I bought it a few years ago. Installed new suspension this summer and it still does it. I have no freakin clue what it is. I think it may be driveline related like carrier bearing, but I haven't changed it yet. Like you said, it only happens around corners when the suspension cycles, so driveline seems unlikely but it's still possible.

Bad body mounts? Thought about that but haven't looked at them before.

Yeah looked at the rear body mounts, the rubber doesn't seem to bad, but anybody know of a good way to check them?

Can't get your link to work, but yeah I've thought about the ice on the frame. I've crawled under the truck before and looked though, could see anything unless is can build up in the frame rails themselves?

I've got the same setup and the same clunking, but only when really cold. It goes away in the summer. I've taken the position that it's a cold weather thing and I'm not too worried about it (after I checked all the obvious problem spots).

    I say you're fine.

I'm still convinced it's some sort of rubber bushing or body mount shrinking in the cold allowing some slop and making the knocking noise.

I'll let you all in on a little secret.....since it sounds like most of you all have OME suspension...

Go out and take a look at the lip on the fuel tank in the driverside rear wheel well. Then look at the leaf spring clamp on the leaf springs. I will bet that the bolt/nut on the spring clamp is hitting the lip of the fuel tank. If it's like mine, the lip on the side of the tank will have a little bend in it where the clamp has been making contact when the driverside suspension compresses.

I'm on All Pro rear leafs. I'll have to verify in the morning.

BOX ROCKET. How did you fix it?

Ill take a look at that. Although it made the same noise with stock suspension as well, and only in the cold.

Bump! I am having the same exact clunk! It comes from the rear driver side I think and sounds like something bumping around in the bed. It does not do it over bumps or anything. Only when I take a sharp curve going like 10 mph. I have a sharp S curve before I pull into my driveway and I can usually always hear it when I hit the curves at the right speed. Too slow, and I wont hear it. It happens when it is cooler outside. Its strange because I can hit a large bump going straight and hear nothing. Add a little curve to it and I hear it.

Mine just started doing this about a month ago.

It's on the drivers side only and only clunks when making a right hand turn while hitting a bump in the road. It sounds like someone is taking a 2x4 and hitting the frame behind the driver and in front of the rear wheel. I still have OEM suspension.

At first I thought my slider was falling off but its on solid. I looked at the motor mounts, axle u bolts fuel tank and everything else under there and everything is tight and no marks where something may be hitting. The only thing that I found was my overload leaf is turned inward slightly. However, there is no paint transfer of scuffs so I don't think that is what's hitting.

Regardless, I have Dakars on the big brown truck right now so we'll see if that fixes anything.

Exactly! Crazy that we all have this same specific clunk. I do not have OME suspension. I have Icon AALs. Not sure why it only does it on curves either...

I still haven't found what does it, but with the warmer weather my truck hasn't done it for months. I'm sure it'll be back this fall though. Done the clunk on your guys's trucks only happen when it's cold?
