Are there any limited edition models?

    Hello,

I plan to replace my 04 tacoma, it may happen this winter, it would be a 2009 model; but I was wondering if TRDs sometimes come out as special or limited edition.

I am the mother of two girls, and I'm looking for sort of an upgraded version of the Tacoma Double Cab. Before I just needed the truck for work, but now I need it to be a little more classy and cool. Maybe a special or a limited edition could do the trick.

And also, one more question, is there a lot of difference in the back seats room space between a PreRunner and a Double Cab or is it the same? Remember, I have two preteens, and this is their main car... we need space.

Welcome to TW, Mother Jay. I'm not sure about the special editions, but for your needs I think the double cab is gonna be the way to go. The Pre-runner is a 2wd with the 4wd suspension, there's no difference in the seat size. The access cab, however, has a much smaller seat that doesn't really accomodate anyone comfortably. Hope this helps.

The TRDs are what I guess you would equate to the special edition. There isn't a Tacoma Limited like there is/was a 4Runner Limited or Tundra Limited (not sure if they still have these). You should check out www.toyota.com. There is the TRD offroad, TRD offroad rugged trail, and the TRD Sport. You should check out the Sport, I think it is along the lines that you are talking about.

The PreRunner is not a cab variation, but a 2 wheel drive that has the 4x4 frame and suspension. Your choices for cabs would be regular, access or double. For driving kids around, the only choice, IMO is the double cab. Kids might fit in the back of the access cab, but not comfortably for very long.

A PreRunner (sold by Toyota) is a 2wd truck that sits on a 4x4 suspension.

It sounds to Me like a TRD Sport is what you would want.

Also, there is no special model Tacoma or limited Production Model. If thats what you want you could always look for TRD SE FJC or a TT SE FJC. Both those vehicles are limited production.

Definitely, double cab is the best type of vehicle for us, it has delivered for the past 4 years. We use it to carry our huge dogs, and it survived 6 weeks of non-stop-hardcore camping all around the island. I think this is the perfect version of the pick-up trucks for active mothers.

the closest she might get would be a TSS edition from the southeast region or a "god-forbid" texas edition...from guess where.

I have been able, on short commutes, to accomodate four children; obviously they are all under 10 years old. My two daughters feel it is a comfortable space.

You'll understand later when you see the ongoing 'war' between the Carolina's and Texas:D. You'll also notice some from the Carolina's picking on us peaceful Canucks:rolleyes:.

Welcome to the site! dcab is the best choice for you, if you are planning using it only on city the TRD Sport package its the best..... About the limited edition thing, i think you can make your taco "Mother Jay Edition" I think that is limited enough ;) there are lots of mods here, just hang around :D

I had a '99 in the Limited version. Don't think they have had it in several years though. As above TRD Sport package gets you the SR5's nicer interior, double cab, PreRunner is 2WD. 4X4 can be had as well, which you wont need unless you're really getting off road. I prefer the V6 and an auto transmission as I'm lazy. And so you know Texans are all right. Some on here are just jealous.

    Also welcome to TW.

    The special editions I've seen:
    TSS
    XS-P
    Texas
    Rugged Trail
    Yamaha (Canada)

Theyre all just basically different tires, wheels, stickers, and a big price mark-up from the stealership.

IMO, the best route is to just buy a TRD offroad or Sport and then upgrade it yourself later. The result will be cheaper and better than anything the dealership come up with.

My X-SP is a Southeast Toyota special package. It comes with 20" Enkei wheels (that look great), stainless steel steps, Borla exhaust with drop in air filter, and carbon fiber dash kit. It cost me $25,000. It looks great and I haul my 14 year old daughter and her friends around comfortably.

Meh. I guess that's ok. It would be a better deal if they had added all that to a TRD, instead of a base model DC. The window sticker on that truck without the X-SP would be about $22k

Just to clarify, the radio has a carbon fiber looking sticker. Not an actual carbon fiber dash kit.

    It's a nice truck though.
