New Leafs - Creeking Noise!

Just installed some new leafs. I hear creaking noise when ever I go over a bump or whenever the leafs move. Anyone else experience this? Should I blast the leaf with some kind of oil like WD40? Thanks.

 

Its not uncommon. What springs are you using? Did you grease the shackles? Make sure your shackle bolts aren't too tight.

dorman 929-401 leafs. Is the shackle where the u-bolts bolt onto? I dont think theyre too tight. I used air tools to tighten. I didnt rack them too hard. How tight should they be?

 

You need to properly torque stuff.. air tools will get them tight btw you still need to grab a torque wrench and make sure its all in spec. Then after driving for about 500miles retire again.

 

The shackle comes down from rear bumper area and attaches on to the leaf eye..

 

Do those spring packs come with anti-friction pads between the leaves?

 

Ubolts should be tight and torqued to spec. Shackles should be snug but not tight to allow unrestricted movement of the shackle. (The shackle is the piece that connects the rear spring eye to the frame).

If the leaf springs do not have any sort of anti-friction pads between the leaves they will be a bit noisy. Not much you can do there unless you pull the leaves apart and install Teflon pads.
