Just over a year ago I bought my '13 single cab, 2wd in Super White. So far I've put 20K miles on her and counting. No issues at all. Not a squeak, rattle or hiccup of any kind. I've run her in 100+ degree temps with ice cold A/C and temps of less than 0 this winter. I love the '12+ front-end and gauges and the touch-screen HU. I've been getting about 27 MPG on the highway when I keep it under 70 MPH. My low has been 24 with my high of just over 28 MPG. Also, with my extra steelies with snow tires I've had no issues getting around in the white stuff...with no weight in the bed.

Wish Toyota offered factory front mudguards, a cargo light and something more than a 2-speed wiper and a locking fuel door. I fixed the wiper issue with the upgraded variable switch and will be adding my own cargo light this spring.

I love her. She's all the truck I need.

Regular cab is still the only one that looks like a truck to me. Love it!

I had a 96 S10, regular cab, 4cyl, 2wd with a five speed. LOVED that truck. But, I have a family now and need the extra room of a four door. And the 4by is helpful. Im a little jealous though. Nice Truck.

I had a 1988 S10 regular cab 4 cyl, 2wd with 5 speed. I put 160,000 miles on that and sold it to my uncle. He put another pile of miles on it and he sold it. It was still running perfect at that time. I remember we had 5 adults and 4 beagles in that one time. Not easy with a stick on the floor!! The only issueI ever had with that truck was the computer went when it was less than a year old. Replaced under warranty, and other than regular maintenance and wear items, the truck was rock solid reliable!

Thanks fellas. Oh, I forgot to mention that the reason the rear wheels don't match the front is they were calling for more snow yesterday so I had my snows on. They maybe from a gen-1 Taco, but $25 for 2 rims and center-caps was too good a deal to pass up. Besides, they're never on for more than a couple of days or so at a time anyway.

Oh...and sorry for the distraction my avatar may cause.

I bought a brand new 1984 S-10. I had it for a month and the right rear axle came out of it going around a turn at low speed.....I owned it for three years and it NEVER DID get any better. (The truck in general.)

I don't doubt that for a minute. It seems that with domestic vehicles it's the luck of the draw. Same applies to foreigns as well, but to a lesser extent. Just my humble opinion.

I saw someone selling a full set of factory mud guards on CL a while back so apparently they do make fronts. Was the wiper upgrade just a plug & play by adding a factory switch with the timer? After adding cruise control I've been wondering if the wipers could be done the same way.

I've not seen any front mudguard options. And yes...plug-and-play on the wiper switch.

Yeah, looks like those are all for the fender-flares. That's what I've been running into.

BTW, the part # for the switch is 84652-04141. If you can live with a 3-speed wiper with a fixed 3-second delay, the Yaris switch works great. Just make sure you get it from a sedan and not the hatchback (LB), as the LB has the rear wiper.

Yep, guess I drew a POS for my S10. Bought a 2001 with 88k on it, ran it to 110k, and then washed my hands of GM all together after never owning anything other than Chevy, Buick, Cadillac. I fixed so many little things on that truck between those miles. The fuel pump three times itself. One time it was the dealerships fault for not sealing the tank correctly though.

Hope the Tacoma does better, so far so good with only 20k on it! :)

Well....thought I would do a 2 year update. 2nd year...same as the first. Everything I said in year 1 applies to year 2. No issues to report. I had one small little dash pop that showed up about a month ago. That turned out to be a simple fix....read here ---> http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/357283-dash-popping-noise-13-a.html. I also took it in to the dealer for the first time to have the updated software for the TRAC/VSC downloaded. That's the only time and hopefully the last time it will ever be there. It made it out with no "injuries".

She now has 35K on her. She looks, sounds, runs and drives just like day 1.

I don't know why but I've always thought the regular cab Tacomas have looked the best. Even on the first gens. When I turned 16, I looked and looked for a regular cab SX with the V6 and came up empty.

I too have a base 2009 RC 2wd 5 speed and I have had absolutely no problems whatsoever. I am currently at 59k miles. My truck serves as a DD for me. I have three sports cars that I am trying to keep the miles off of. I really enjoy how these base trucks just blend in with traffic. I could have easily afforded any Tacoma I wanted, but chose to go the simplest route possible and I have not regretted it whatsoever.

That's me. No point in buying more truck or gadgets than I really need.

And your truck reminds me of my 1st Taco....also a base '09 in sliver.
