^^^^ that is a NICE setup! looks great!

in the next few months, my goal is to fab up a similar bedrack that will allow for some rotopax on the sides with the RTT on top, but keep everything mostly below cab height.

That will be interesting. Never seen one with roto mounts that allowed he tent to be lower than bob's. Mine is a little higher and also has roto mounts

yea but CVT was NOT ready for the 88+ tents that were ordered. will be this time and be similar to the GB i participated in 2 years ago. I had my tent 7-9 days or something like that after i ordered. was awesome.

So should I plan on buying a CVT through GB during March and expect it before Moab this year?

Yep. S. Africa. made by people actually using them in an environment like they're supposed to be used rather than a Chinese factory that will never use the product.

Most people go to China to have stuff they designed made. So as long as the design is proven and they use quality material, it's all good for me.

The Series 3 seems to be closer to either the Kukenam or the Mt. Bachelor in size and features. Some differences in the construction material-wax coated poly cotton and a plywood base. The cover is definitely a lot nicer.

But otherwise, more alike than different. Except price:eek: Slee Off-road carries them.

    Thanks for the original link.

Yep there are comparable models in size and features to other brands, but there really is a difference. I don't own an Eezi-Awn and do own a Chinese made Tepui which I really like. But from firsthand experience the EA tents are without question better quality even if by appearance they look like another tent that's out there.

No question they are expensive and it's debatable whether or not they are worth the hefty pricetag. My personal experience says yes they are worth it but only if you are planning the heavy type of use that they were designed for.

I guess I don't see the heavy use argument. I'd have to look at it for myself to determine that.

A slew of pricey stuff my wife hates me for.
I'm picking up what he's putting down. If you'll take it out two weekends in the summer to run to the family campground than save a little money and buy a knock-off. But if you are planning years and years of multi-week wilderness expeditions it would behoove one to invest in a higher quality model.

Quality of materials, construction, and design all figure greatly into the wear and tear one of these RTTs will endure. The last thing you want is to be 200 miles into nowhere and your tent rips open during a storm in the middle of the night.

As a side note, this is one item I do not plan on skimping on.

the heavy use argument is that a CVT or Tepui or other like brand will not be nearly as durable and would not hold up nearly as long in extreme conditions (or normal conditions) when compared to the EA.

but feel free to look for yourself since you won't take anyone else's word for it.

I understand. But let's look at the differences. The biggest being the tent fabric. You could go either way with that. The same is true with the base material (plywood vs aluminum core).

I would not want the tent to come apart (and I've had that happen in Death Valley with a backpacking tent) regardless. So construction and materials are important to me whether light or heavy use.

I'd love to see an EA tent in person.
