Nothing wrong with his way. I would do the same, but I'm to lazy so I just put tape over the gauge.

Not everyone runs the TPMS. I haven't had the tire that have them on my truck in 2 years and if you guys think I'm paying to have two sets of tires removed and remounted for stupied TMPS censors your nutz :D

Relying on a silly computer to avoid what you should be checking manually is BS.

Old school - check your tires.

    I agree.

Idiots lights are just that - lights for idiots.

    Ahhh, Ok. I gotcha...

The spare tire has a TPMS sensor too... Just incase the guy didn't realize it. Mine has tripped my sensor a few times.

The last sensor I had that had a battery that died.. my left rear..The light would flash and then stay on solid. (In this case, the light stayed on and it was a dead sensor.) I had the sender replaced and it was cured. Untill the right front went dead a few months later. Maybe the light sequence is different from year to year. For example, my spare never had one.......

Not meaning to thread jack, but I got new wheels and I installed a new sensor since they broke one upon removing them from the old wheels. The box said no programming needed and yet the light keeps flashing. I went to Discount Tire and all 4 sensors read and showed to be operating properly. They rewrote the IDs and told me to drive it around so the light would come off but it keeps flashing still. Can anyone confirm if this is a faulty sensor still or does the '11 happen to have one on the spare as well? We took a glance at it and it looks like a regular valve stem.

Spare should have one too but if its flashing it sounds like a bad sensor. If discount read the sensors they probably saw 4 and did not think about the spare.

with our trucks, you should not need to drive around. I know why they are telling you this, because that is how most vehicles work. Toyota sensor lights should go off within 30 seconds of a reset. I would bet that they missed the spare, or neglected to use the reset button in the truck.

A flashing light does not mean the pressure is low, it means a sensor is broken/not reading. Even if the sensor is a ready sensor, its ID still needs to be set, if that makes sense.

Just go back in, I'm sure they will take care of you!

    Reset Procedure;

    1. Park the vehicle in a safe place and turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" position.

    2. Adjust the pressure of all installed tires to the specified cold tire inflation pressure level.

    3. Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position.

    4. Push and hold the tire pressure warning reset switch until the tire pressure warning light blinks slowly three times.

    5. Leave the system with the ignition switch in "ON" position for a few minutes, and then turn the ignition key to the "LOCK" position.

If the light is flashing there IS a malfunction with a sensor. The malfunction could be that the sensor(s) need to be registered with the ECU.

Me too, but not everyone wants to drink our COOL-AID! :D I spent a ton of money keeping the system alive in my poor "OLD" '09 Tacoma, untill I finally gave up on it. I still have the systems in my Yaris and in my Scion XB. But when their sensor batteries start dying off and the systems begin to fail, they're also history. (I recently spent almost $200 last month repairing the Yaris' TPMS at the dealer. So it has begun.) I say keep the system functioning as long as you can or until you've spend too much time and money. There are many folks MUCH more patient than myself.

This may have changed with different years, but my spare doesn't have a tpms. Just a regular valve stem.

I've just delt with the stupid light. I might eventually do the mod. When I had my wheels and tires put on, the garage wouldn't put the tpms in the new wheels. They were scared they would break because they stuck out more than they did on the factory wheels.

Yes. The factory 'Yota sensors don't fit every ones aftermarket wheels. It would be a shame to buy new replacements for fitment issues if your originals are still working.

    Yes.

What Does a TPMS Warning Light Mean?

    1. TPMS Light illuminates while driving – When the TPMS light comes on – and stays on – at least one of your tires is at a low pressure level. Check the pressure of all of the tires with a gauge and determine the cause of pressure loss and add air or service the tire(s) as appropriate.

    1. TPMS Light goes on and off – When tire pressure(s) are near the level that triggers an alert, fluctuating temperatures may be causing your TPMS light to turn on and off. This typically occurs when pressure decreases over night due to a drop in ambient temperature that causes the light to turn on; the light may turn off when pressure increases during the day due to rising ambient temperature and/or heat generated from the driving the vehicle. Use a gauge to check the pressure of all of the tires and add air to any tire that is low.

    1. TPMS Light flashes and then stays on – If the light flashes for approximately 60 to 90 seconds every time you start your car and then remains illuminated, this means the TPMS isn’t functioning properly and you should take it to an automotive service center for an inspection. Until repaired, the TPMS is out of order and is not able to warn you of low tire pressure. Check the air pressure of all of the tires with a gauge and add air to the tires that need it.
