Make it Saturday and meet up with us, there is a an 80% chance of snow in the forecast on Saturday. Drops down to a 20% chance on Sunday.

My problem with that is you'll be sharing the 5 open trails with a thousand other people with the same idea. :( Once there is some acreage open I'll be in Tahoe every Sunday.

I'm new to the area, so I've only skied Squaw and Boreal so far. Seems like everyone has their own preference on which mountain to go to. I've been told Heavenly is best, Squaw is best, Alpine... etc.

Lift lines and busy trails drive me insane. The best day of snow we go last year at Stratton (about 12" overnight) was ruined by a busy mountain (Saturday), lift lines, and high winds closing the gondola.

Anyway, back on topic (there is a Ski BS thread already:p) - Can anyone recommend a trail for Saturday in the snow? My Jeep buddy recommended Fordyce, but when I looked it up it's probably not realistic to bring a stock Tacoma there. Is the Ice House/Wentworth Springs Road trip all roads, or is it trail too? I missed the last trip because we went out to Red Dog Rd instead (closer to me and I got a late start.)

I would not go to Fordyce in a stock truck, unless I dont know about easy trails up there.

Do Ice house, Its pavement, however, they dont plow it so it can be lots of fun

If I was going to drive snowy pavement I'd just drive my A4 and give the Quattro the workout. ;-)

I'm looking for something similar to Red Dog Rd or easy trails.

All the 'native surface' (dirt!) roads are closed through the winter months.

A paved snowy road that's never been plowed is quite a bit different from your garden variety street that's accumulated a couple of inches of the white stuff before the next snow plow rolls through.

For an un-plowed paved road, take the road that goes over Sly Park dam, near Pollock Pines. Its an un-official snow park during the winter. Commonly known as Iron Mountain road. Officially Mormon-Emigrant Road. Gets real busy up there on the weekends after fresh powder.

Here's a 10year old photo in my old rig:
