That's my thoughts as well. I operate a CNC twin table router that cost several hundred thousand dollars, and it can't hold .001 tolerances. How do you compensate for humidity? I have to make programming adjustments if it starts raining.

I have a Black and Decker corded drill that I got from my father. Thing is practically new and the chuck is locked up tighter than a drum from using a hole saw. Nuff said hahaha

I don't buy tools that cost a fortune like Oz and FTD mentioned, because I am a homeowner and don't use them that often nor do I need that kind of precision. If I did use them every day as you guys do I sure would spend that cash on it since those are my livelihood.

No real loyalty to brands. In no order I have tools from Craftsman, Stanley, Porter Cable, Ryobi, and a few more I don't recall right now.

 

"Marginal" market share or "marginal" quality?

Market share, I'd agree with... but also, Klein (and Ideal) are more niche, catering to the electrician/technician.
IMHO, Klein hand tools are top notch for the most part... I'd put nearly any of their tools up against anything from Craftsman, B&D, Snap-On, etc... They are one of the few companies that produces length-marked (laser engraved) fish tape.

Ideal has some good specialty tools, but they also have some low end stuff... have to be careful.
Generally, between Klein, Greenlee, and Ideal, I'll reach for them in that order, except for video coax tools. That will be either Ideal or Paladin.

 

I want to ga back in time and kick that guys ass who invented the flat head screw and shake that hand of the inventor of the Phillips screw

Actually Craftsman tools are subcontracting manufacturing of many of their tools now to overseas companies. No longer solely "Made in America" anymore. One of the reasons Stanley has a huge profit is that unless things have changed, I believe they still hold the government contract for tools. That amounts to MILLIONS of dollars there every year, if not more!

X2000 I have never been a fan of common screwdrivers. Lost track of how many times I messed up a screw with those things. I use them more as tiny pry-bars. lol.

 

Porter Cable = Stanley

 

In the same respect that Dewalt = Black & Decker.

B&D is not much better than Harbor Freight.
Dewalt is what the old B&D was in the 60s.

 

use the tools roy underhill uses.

 

Stanley is Porter Cable is Black and Decker is DeWalt
