PM them to me if you would be so kind. I'm putting my new Delorme GPS through the paces on that trip and I want to make sure I build the map in the desktop software correctly. I want to d/l the satellite imagery for the right areas.

So I am reading reviews all over the place about this trail, and some people show pics of Carpet Hill and some other "obstacles". They are claiming guaranteed damage, flat tires, etc. and I'm looking at these pics saying to myself "really?". Anyways, the pics make it look like a fun trail and all, with some dicey spots, but honestly guys what is the rating of this trail in its toughest spots? Scale of 1-10. And don't say 3 when some spots should be a 7 LOL.

Anyone have any pics from the last trip in any of the most challenging spots, or is Carpet Hill the only real challenge?

Its not that bad in a capable rig with an experienced driver. U just gotta pay attention or u will fuck something up. That's what happened to me last year coming out at night.

What did you fuck up on your rig? I get the whole not paying attention thing and breaking a tie rod or something, but that shit can happen to anyone in a split second. Understandable. I take good lines and have been on some gnarly trails at all angles. Just trying to feel whether or not some of these guys reviewing this trail are just dumbasses or not.

    Some stuff here and there....
In a stock tacoma. I did this trail. I had sliders and duratracs. With that being said I dented my front passanger side bumper in. Pinched my exhaust shut. And fucked up my 4wheel drive actuator. I blame all of it on no lift. I just didnt have the clearance of the body to make it over some of the rocks.

Going up hill at night the shadows off the rocks can be deceptive as most experienced wheelers know. I wasn't paying enough attention and it turned out to be a bigger drop off than I expected. When my rear came off the rock it got into the bedside a little but it completely twisted the rear bumper wing up and knocked my taillight off. Broke the housing. Completely my fault it was totally avoidable. I'm lifted 3" with km2's. If u have a similar set up ull be fine as long as u pay attention. Its a lot of shelf road sometimes very steep shelf road but not really any off camber type stuff and no huge narly obsticales. Slow n steady wins the race on rug road.

Sweet. Not a problem at all for me. I just don't want to go 45 degrees on my side on a nasty shelf road and freak my wife out. Passenger panic is more stressful than a nasty trail any time.

No there's nothing like that... at least not that I remember. She should be fine. Lots of beautiful views off the shelf sections.

As I remember, the first third of the trail is the hardest. Once you get down Carpet Hill and start up the side of Table Mt, it's relatively smooth sailing after that. Keep in mind that a person's opinion of a particular trail is influenced by said person's off-road experience and comfort level.

The first half of Rug Road will be pre-ran next Saturday by Mike, CrawlinWJ and myself, so we will know the condition of it beforehand. There will be lots of detailed pics and probably some go pro footage put up as well. :)
