Ice between Rocker Panel, Front Wheel Wheel, and Frame

It's always happened on my Tacoma.

I don't exactly see what the issue is. Just ice, it's not going to hurt anything.

 

It's annoying, and since we've gotten about 15 feet of snow so far this winter, it happens all the time.

 

Not to mention the fact that there is definitely salt mixed in with that ice.

What is that going to do in there?

Well that's on you anyways, you should wash your vehicle off often where there's salt. I don't what everybody else has around them. But there's usually a car wash somewhere that sprays heated water. You could use that to spray off the whole underside of your truck and should get rid of it.

 

+1 when you know that is the problem. But before you know, you're searching hard.

 

I spray it off all the time. Doesn't get rid of it.

 

How does it not get rid of it? Unless there's ice somewhere that you're not seeing.

 

Given the amount of snow that we get, it just builds up too much.

I probably could get it all with $8 in quarters every day of my life, but it would be nice if it didn't happen in the first place.

What is different about the '13 that makes this happen? It literally never happened in either of my other 2nd gen's.

 

Hmm, that's odd to me that it would take that much to get rid of some ice buildup.

I don't think it's has anything to do with design of a vehicle. You're driving it in adverse weather conditions. Not exactly possible to plan the design of the body and frame mounts around that.

 

I've driven in the same adverse conditions with my other two 2nd gen Taco's and never had this issue once. (about six winters worth of driving)

It happens every time we get snow in the '13. Something must be different.

 

So, are you blaming Toyota for something that is out of their control or just complaining?

The issue is that there is an annoying clunking sound every time it snows.

Not only has this never happened on my other Toyota's, it's never happened on any other vehicle that I've ever owned.

It's some kind of flaw, no matter if it hurts the truck or not. I have a 05 Tacoma and this problem is so bad right now with nothing I can see I'm taking it into the shop just to make sure I didn't or won't brake something.

 

So I'm at the dealership right now. My truck sat in the heated bay while they did something to it for a seat belt recall. Then they take it for a drive to listen to it, and the damn thing does nothing. So they ask me to drive it and see if I can make it do it, nothing. It must have just been ice and it melted while they did the seat belt.

 

Did they mention if it would be bad for it if it was ice?

 

No, they have never even heard of it before.

 

Mine does it all the time. At first , I thought it was some sort of cab mount or sway bar issue, but then I started to notice it only does it when I drive through water and temperatures are below freezing. If that happens, I can count on the clunk sound being around for a little while. I never did see where the ice forms, but the first time I heard it, I jacked it up and checked all the suspension parts to make sure the front end wasn't falling apart.

 

So I got to the airport yesterday afternoon, hopped in the truck and sure enough the floor troll was still there knocking on my floorboards. Every little bump in the road, every press of a pedal - knock phukin knock knock. You can feel the bump with your feet..... drives you mental.

Then I hit a big bump and the knock is gone, did not happen again on the trip home.

I hope this will not become a new winter tradition. My kids had a house elf this year at Christmas and I get a truck troll, yay.

 

My 2007 has been doing this for half the winter. You're right, you can't just kick it out of there; it's wedged in there so bad it's gotta be chipped out. I just gave up and put up with the noise even though it sounds like the suspension is gonna fall off every time I hit a bump.

It is weird how it transmits the knocking through the floor so well, I can feel it even through my double-soled steel toe boots and Husky floorliners

 

That's what they're trained to say. Even if it's a well known issue (like squeaky leaf springs and ticking heating fans), they always say they never heard of it.
