    'Morning folks.

My truck has just reached the 70k point. The last I talked to the local dealer service, they said to not touch the auto transmission fluid until 100k because of the WS fluid, and wanted to charge a ridiculous amount for a flush.

My truck has the transmission cooler, so I know a drain and fill won't get all of the old stuff out. Is it something I should worry about and have a shop flush it (perhaps with Amsoil ATF like Werty did), or should I just up and just do a drain/fill in my garage?

    Thanks!

Toyota changed the service interval from 100K to 50K - it has been mentioned here before but I forget which link it is. With the excellent write-ups on here, it's a no brainer...

Which should I do, though? Drain/fill or machine flush?

I have seen pro's for both. But you don't need a machine flush - I believe there was a write-up by fortech (?) who shows how to do a complete flush without a machine. If you can follow these directions, then it is fairly easy to do...

    Full flush by Mountain Lion:

    Drain/refill by Fortech:

Spacemanspiff thanks for the links to these older threads.

I was about to ask a question about just this subject and I'm glad I did a cursory search prior to posting a redundant question.

I'm coming up on 70,000 on my Tacoma so I'm probably overdue on at least a drain and refill if not a flush.

Do a complete flush by removing the cooler return hose and capturing there.

At less than 20k I was surprised at how brown the fluid already had become.

When I installed a larger cooler, the fluid that came out was still very red with similar mileage. It also was not WS.
