The difference here is that this is NOT an offer by Toyota. This is an offer by a franchised dealer only. So yes, if this dealership were to go belly up, then Toyota itself is not involved. (assuming that the information is correct in that this is an extended offer from the dealership, and not Toyota)

Remember, this is NOT the fault of Toyota at all, and they are not responsible for the engine being damaged due to negligence of a dealership.

Wow, this is why my mechanic told me not to get serviced at the dealership. They aren't mechanics changing oil over there, its lackeys. Having just bought a brand new truck and going through the experience what a friend said rings truest: they can't possibly have your best interests in mind. In terms of sales anyway. Not sure how that relates to the service depts there but I think having a mech you have a personal relationship with is best.

I believe they use a third party warranty firm so it wouldn't matter if the dealer goes belly up.

Obviously, the warranty firm believes that 1) what they are covering (drivetrain only) is pretty bullet proof these days if properly maintained, 2) most people don't keep their vehicles long enough to make claims 3) Those that try to make claims may not be able to prove up the maintenance, 4) they have a limited tail of liability as even if you keep the vehicle 15 years, the book value will eventually decline so that they won't be liable.

Since ordering my new Tacoma, I've been lurking here. In my opinion, you truck wasn't damaged,

A few years ago, I changed the oil in my beloved 1997 T100. Afterwards, I took about a five mile drive before hearing a rattling sound from the engine. I stopped, looked under the truck and saw oil splattered all over the place. Zero oil on the dipstick, etc.

Anyway, upon crawling under the truck, noticed that the oil had escaped around the oil filter area. Towed the truck home. After inspection I found that when replacing the oil filter, the old gasket has remained on the block, and the double gasket had caused the leak.

I was etremely worried, but didn't seem to have any issues after that, no oil usages, still same oil pressure, etc. I recently sold the T100 with 100,000. I had to have driven at least a couple of miles with zero oil.

Learned some lessons. Check to see if the old oil filter gasket stayed on the block, and monitor oil pressure gauge after changing oil. Plus, double and triple check everything. My new Tacoma, when it arrives, will get more attention!!!

Glad to hear that you have a solution to your problem.

I may sound like I'm looking for evidences to support my "distrusts" is the stealerships but this sort of incidents is exactly why I refuse to have the dealer change my Taco's oil. Can't trust them people. I'd demand for a new engine or a new truck.

I thought most people cleaned off the oil filter mounting base before installing a new filter. This is when the stubborn old gasket would be discovered and removed.

Glad to hear your T100 still ran fine after the incident.

Now think about this one, those same people will be working on replacing frame (disassembling truck and reassembling. )

    Can't wait for that...

A valid point, however, I doubt this will turn out badly. Toyota is taking great pains to remedy a huge error with the frames. They wouldn't take this much time and spend this much money just to screw it up in the end. Much is on the line and I have faith Toyota will do right by us the customers.

Do our 4.0l have this system protocol ? I just went out and unplugged my oil pressure sending unit by the oil filter mount. The truck started and the oil pressure light did not come on ?????? WTF ?

lets hope, My dealership could not change transmission fluid correctly so I have little faith in their frame replacement ability.
I am pretty sure they gonna f something up badly. lucky with new frame I will just fix their f up and move on. Just need new frame and this time I want that crap painted by body shop with real paint.
I am pretty sure our oil pressure switch is desigend to close\open circuit. When is 0 psi than its closed, it opens at 4 psi if I am not mistaken. So disconnecting cable makes it think it has correct psi.

The prints show it as a Normally Closed Switch so when it is actively under pressure it would be open.

In order to test the shutdown of the engine on loss of pressure you will need to unplug the wire from the switch and connect the wire to a ground point.

This should illuminate the Oil Pressure LED in the Combination Meter and shut down the engine if that feature exists. I don't know about the shut down feature??? Try it and let us all know!

I just went through the unplug a little while ago. Started the truck with the oil pressure sending unit plugged in. While running, I unplugged the sending unit and used a pointed test light plugged into the wire with the alligator clip grounded.
The oil pressure light did light on the dash, it DID NOT kill the engine. So it appears my 08 does not have the no oil pressure shut down feature.

I didn't think that it did as per the prints it appears to only go to the idiot light in the dash.

Unreal. I once had my oil changed at the dealer and when I tried to check my oil a couple of weeks later , There was no dipstick . I went back to the dealer ( Pissed ) and they tried to tell me that I probably checked my oil level and didn't put the dipstick back in the tube . they wanted to charge me for a new one . I was so mad I had trouble talking , Then the wife got involved ( a red head ) and it didn't take them long to give me a new dipstick just to get her out of there .

Too many rookies in service bay. I want to physically WATCH them do service at the very LEAST
If I cannot supervise them they can piss off. If it's free i typically ask for the oil and filter to take home
You want a job done right DO IT YOURSELF
My new taco is too precious to gamble with rookies screwing with it

Had mine in for the 20,000 service in January. Left right after the oil change on a 150 mile trip and noticed a clicking sound coming from under the hood whenever the heater fan would kick on. Popped the hood to see why and found an empty oil quart bottle under the oil filter drain hole. By this time the belt had worn two holes in the bottle and there was no oil left in the bottle.

Obviously have done the oil changes myself for the 25,000 and 30,000 intervals. Took it in for inspection in April and told the service advisor what happened and demanded the serpentine be changed. They agreed to change it but wrote it in the log as 'customer complained of squeeling belt'.

On a side note I put 32,000 miles on it since it was purchased new on April 28, 2014.

I just pulled 3 styro cups out from under the hood of my buddy's Baja. The dinks left em under the oil filter drain and they were rubbing against the belts causing a slight chirping noise. Dealers are whack. DIY....

You're a better man than me. I would have had someone over the hood of a new vehicle in the showroom whipping their ass with my belt..
