I have 2 speaker brands that I have left over from previous vehicles. I debated on upgrading my whole system but am working on the lift and tires first. I am going to install one of these two sets of speakers to improve the sound. Just need help on deciding which one to use. Thanks.

These are being installed with the stock HU on a 2009 DoubleCab (non-JBL).

    Clarion SRR1624 coaxial 2-way
    6 1/2" diameter
    30watt continuous
    120watt peak

    OR

    Kenwood KFC-6808C 3-way
6x8" diameter (box says it also fits 5x7")
    45watt rated power
    200watt peak power

I think I'll put the Kenwood up front and the Clarion in the back.

Now to contact ********* for some baffles...

Round speakers replicate sound better than oblong speakers, period.

That's interesting...I did not know that!

But the Clarion's (35W continuous) are not as powerful as the Kenwood's (45W continuous).

I assume this is not a factor with the stock HU but would be when I upgrade. Maybe that is still powerful enough for most listening levels...I don't know. That number doesn't mean much to me; I just thought whichever is higher is better

Think about this. A speaker needs enough power that at it's peak voltage it adequate energy to PULL after it has PUSHED.

IE, if you wire 4 35 watt speakers into a head unit that pushes 200 watts, you are overpowering the speakers by 50 watts, so as you have enough wattage to pull the speaker back after it has been pushed.

If a speaker is underpowered, the speaker could hit hard and not have enough power to pull back into place- you always want to plan to OVERPOWER your speakers, not UNDERPOWER. You will notice that amps and head units are paired so as the speakers combined wattage is less than the head unit or amps peak wattage.

I guess I don't know...see two quotes down(?) I thought ********* was the way to go but now I'm being told differently.
    Mr Marv?

GREAT explanation - thanks! Being uneducated, I thought that you want more capability from the speakers than the HU. Thanks for the heads-up!

Not sure what the stock HU is, but most aftermarket's (in my range) push 200watt MAX. That is plenty if I use all 4 of these speakers (45+45+35+35=160watt). I plan to use the stocker for now and upgrade when business picks up - next year.

Rather than telling me what not to get; why not offer some suggestions? You are apparently 'in the know'

I'm the know as to not buy from *********. That is easy to see from the threads here and on tn.

Check with marv or ebay or make your own.

Yup...did some research and saw the threads bashing their service and support.

I couldn't find ANY on ebay. I guess Mr. Marv is the way to go.

Or maybe I will try my hand at making them.

I still need to decide if I should put all 4 speakers in. If I did, I might have to disconnect the stock tweaters because the Kenwood 6x9's have tweaters.

Maybe I'll put the 6x9's up front and the Clarion 6.5's in the back. Any thoughts on that arrangement?
