After dealing with keeping our tractors from gelling up for the last two days I think I might pass on a diesel Tacoma.

I want a full electric plug in Tacoma. I don't want to waste time with this diesel garbage.

I'm not saying a diesel is a bad thing, I just think Nissans suck based on the two that I have owned.

I've had better much better luck. I've owned my Xterra for 14 years. It has 175,000 miles on it and the only thing I've had to maintain was belts, tires, and oil. .. Most reliable vehicle I've ever owned.

I imagine Toyota won't be far behind with a diesel after the Nissan does come out, maybe. As far as the Hilux goes in my opinion it's ugly and smaller then the Tacoma. Being stationed in Germany I've seen probably about 10 of them. 2 four doors and the rest access cabs. I parked my truck beside one of them and got out to compare them side by side the access cab of my truck looked a lot bigger then the Hilux. So the only real upper hand the hilux as is the diesel engine in my opinion. It's a little funny coming through the gates and the German guards ask what I'm driving, some ask if it's a Hilux then I just say it's the American version of it.

I've actually driven several versions of them as well as the diesel 4Runner/Surf and the Fortuner and I'd buy a diesel HiLux. :p I actually prefer the styling on them and the increased load capacity.

Move to a first world country. I payed $3.44 for Shell V Power 93 with no ethanol the other day. Regular is running around $2.99 at shell and the cheaper grocery stores are selling around $2.95.

For all the haters on the 4x2: I suspect Nissan couldn't fit a front differential in there with the larger diesel. If you read the article I read the CEO talks about how the current platform needed modification to fit the engine in it. 4x4 was probably just a casualty of that.

With that said if they redesign the truck with it not being ugly; aka 01-04 frontiers, Get rid of the Rubbermaid interior, and don't charge too much for the diesel option.
I'll buy the crap out of it.

Cummins engines are just about superior to every other diesel on the market in longevity and economy. The only other company that comes close it CAT. I see it every day in Fire trucks. They get treated like crap and ask for more. The 5.9L is great and the 8.3L is even better.
ZF makes an excellent auto trans.
What's not to like? They'll be growing pains similar to a domestic truck but by the 2nd MY they'll be really good.
So I'll take one in Midnight Blue please.

Same, I would've bought a Frontier if the interior didn't suck so bad and was full of what feels like cheap plastics.

I've had two new Nissans. A 4X4 Titan and an Altima 2.5s. Both had quality issues. The Titan developed brake judder (front brakes had to be replaced) and rear axle seals started leaking all before 15K miles. The Altima had a small coolant leak from day one brand new. The dealer pressure tested the system twice and insisted there was no leak, yet whenever the heater was on it smelled like pancake syrup in the car. So I say FU Nissan. I'll stick with my Tacoma.

This concept is more promising than anything Toyota has on the current Tacoma.

Being the only auto manufacturer on the market who hasn't even dropped a hint about their next gen mid-size, they're really lagging behind.

I'll bet that they are just letting it all Soak in and are then going releases the plans. I certainly hope it isn't the downfall of the Taco

My friend Gerhard swapped a d4d intercooler and swapped the turbo in his first gen tacoma thats sitting on fj80 axles. Its quite a rig to be honest. He hated electronic so swapped the entire system over to mechanical injectors. I would love the Tacoma to have a 4.5 TT intercooler v8 diesel in them as the Land cruisers have. I suspect that if you can find a donor cruiser that got trashed and import it some one with some skills should be able to build one bad ass rig
