Hi all, I did a search and couldn't find any other threads pertaining to my situation or any threads really containing any parts to my related question. MODS please delete and point in correct direction if there is a thread for my question.

I have a 2010 v6 4.0 base and up to this point have had intermittent problems with what I believed to be the blower motor resistor, which I purchased and then of course the old one continued to work so instead of replacing the old one, I kept it in. A few days ago I heard what I believed to be the blower motor making a clicking noise and lower air output even on recirculation. I shutoff the vehicle and now the blower won't turn on at all. Thinking it was the resistor I waited a few more restarts, because the fan would eventually start working again. Now the blower is totally dead.

So I've replaced the old resistor with the new one and that didn't help.

I don't think it's the interior fan switch because it kicks the AC button light on and I can hear the compressor kick on. Moving with the windows down and the compressor on causes passive air flow and I get cold air out of the vents.

I checked the IG 1 No 2 fuse (10A) and it's not blown. The 100A AC SKT fuse appears to be intact (not blown) so I thought perhaps the blower motor (heater) relay. I pulled it and with a multimeter Ohm tester followed the service manual testing description. It appears to be fine and when battery voltage is applied I hear the click. Also, there is the exact part next to the relay in the DIM slot, attempting to swap that didn't correct the problem either.

A multimeter placed on the blower motor contacts shows no voltage (12v?)at all, leading me to believe it's just simply a fuse since it's not receiving power.

What fuses are associated with the blower motor and/or a/c system? And, do you have any other ideas how to rectify my situation before taking it to a garage or stealership? I read somewhere, but cannot find the same reference, that there is also a fuse inside the blower motor, on the motor, or somehwere on top of the motor accessible through the glove box (which has to be removed).

    Help please :)

Sorry. I did fix the problem myself. It did happen to be the blower motor itself, though I think some blame can also be placed on the blower motor resistor too.

Open and then remove the glove/storage compartment on the passenger side. This will expose the blower motor and also allow you to change your cabin filter which happens to be for both re-circulation and fresh air.

Give the motor a good jarring like punch it or bang it with a rubber mallet. Do this while the power to the fan is on, preferably on high setting. If it sputters and then eventually starts up, you need to replace the motor itself, though I'd go ahead and replace the motor with the wheel too. The fan as we call it is actually a turbine, like you see the cleaning crews use to dry the floors.

I ended up purchasing the Continental model from Auto Zone. As other posts indicate, on high it does make a vibrating/rattling noise on high. You do get use to it, but it can be annoying for awhile.

You can also purchase a replacement blower motor resistor which appears to have been totally redesigned and I really can't see that one going bad, though others have said it lasts for a year or two and then conks out again.

    Hope that helped.

Thanks for the quick response QuickOK .
I took my TACO into the Stealership today because of cold and snow, it became dangerous to drive. After half an hour the Tech came and got me,he found that the connector right at the blower motor was l not clipped in place properly. The connector and approx 2 inches of wires were burnt,he said they haven't seen that before and don't even stock the part,($65) plus labor plus taxes. I'm waiting for a phone call once the part comes in then I'll make the hour long trip back to the dealership :(

    Tomorrow I'll post a photo

P.S. I had 3 noisy blower motors replaced under warranty , I guess the fourth one was installed with less care.
