2014 New tacoma build - advice

Hi all,
First time poster, and potential first time buyer of a new Tacoma. I wanted to ask for some advice on some of the TRD performance parts.
A bit of background on my situation

I've been looking to buy for about 3 months, I've test driven many vehicles, more notably a new tundra, tacoma, RAM and an 06 tundra. While the RAM impressed me the most for price vs features, I've been a Toyota/Honda loyalist my whole life and they have never let me down. I feel buying a RAM would end up being a bad investment and big loss, especially when compared to the insane resale value of the Tacoma's.

So I am looking into a limited 2014 taco, and I am wondering if the added cost of the TRD SC and exhaust package are worth it. I never plan to offroad, just paved driving and occasional towing/hauling. Does the SC affect how loud the cabin is on the highway, or only under full throttle? I like power but not at the cost of comfort. Is the SC relatively suddle, and only heard when you want to hear it, or does it become an annoyance for daily driving? I've only found a couple videos on youtube and it has a distinct sound, but they are 0-80mph type videos so its hard to tell. I have no way to test drive one so I have to rely on others experience. If I was going to purchase the SC, I'd rather do it now when I can finance the added cost in with the truck.

My 2 cents, I owned a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 Daytona for 3 years, it was the best looking pos I've ever owned! Sounded awesome (changed to a smaller Borla muffler), had great power (added a Superchips program), rode nice, but..... I had nothing but problems with it for 3 straight years! I'm sure there are other owners that have had good luck with them, but this truck had demons. Check Engine light came on on the ride home, I would fix it, then the CEL would reappear after a few weeks. This continued for my 3 years of ownership. New O2 sensors, cam shaft sensor, crank sensor, gas pedal twice (known to have bad sensors in them) throttle body cleaned, new plugs, new wires, water pump twice! repaired/re-grounded 6 corroded ground wires/straps, replaced failed CD stereo, replaced several burnt bulbs in the dash, replaced 4 coil packs, replaced shocks, and with all of that work done, when I dumped it (traded it in for the Tacoma), the entire passenger side of the engine was missing! CEL back on! I'd had it at that point. No more Dodge products for me! I am meticulous with maintenance and never off-roaded with the truck, so failures were not from abuse. If you don't need the size of a full size truck, I'd go with the Tacoma. I didn't like the looks of it stock, so I modded it and now I love it! Doesn't have near the power of the Hemi nor sound, but it is fine, gets slightly better gas mileage, and is much easier to get in and out of, drive and park, plus it pulls 6500 pounds (the Dodge had an 8000 pound rating) so it is close to the Hemi tow rating.

OP. i'm pretty happy with the non SC motor. i offroad and most of it is super far from home. i just like the motor as is.

 

Concur! I saw "Dodge Ram" and it immediately hits a raw nerve with me and puts me in pmo mode! Forgot to finish reading the rest of the post! lol ! If it's any worth to you, my friend has a 2004 Tacoma double cab with the supercharger on it, he loves it and it is still running like a champ with about 140K on the odometer. I'll have to ask him about the sound and when it kicks in and report back. I think the SC installed is in the $5K-6K range, correct? quite expensive. I was thinking about adding one to my 2014 until I saw the price.
