But they're so much better when you build them :/

I've kept my mouth shit about it but I honestly hate seeing guys on here buying PSA and PTAC uppers because you're really getting what you pay for in terms of quality. They don't even stake the gas key bolts properly on their carriers from what I've seen. It's just budget built stuff. Saves you money and saves them money, because they're selling at what $250? They probably only spent $175 on the parts AND the labor of putting them together. And I've said before I personally think their parts kits are junk, broke a hammer once at the range and my pins walked on me another time after realizing they went in way too easy, ripped the whole parts kit out and swapped for a CMMG kit and KNS pins.

I'm not going to speak for everyone but I can tell you exactly why I bought a cheap PTAC assembled upper. I am planning on building an AR but I'm inexperienced. #1 reason, it was cheap and they have a decent reputation. This gives me an inexpensive platform to mess with as an introduction to ARs and gives me an inexpensive, down and dirty shooter. I do have a stripped upper that I plan to build up with much better parts and I'll end up having a lot more money into by the time I'm done, the PTAC upper was a nice intro though.

FWIW, my gas key appears to be properly staked from what I can tell :notsure:

True, I mean I guess since it's cheap you don't really have to put much care into cleaning and you can just run it as long as you keep it wet.

Idk if they slacked with QC on all carriers, but I have seen many that friends of mine bought and they were not staked properly at all, some were bad enough they pretty much ruined the the gas key. That's not to say they weren't replaced with new ones free of charge, but it shouldn't have been that way in the first place.

I used to push the PSA LPK as being a well made inexpensive LPK but since the scare they seem to have switched vendors for theIr LPKs because the triggers are noticeably gritty and creepy where the old ones were actually darn nice for a Mil-Spec trigger. There are a couple things that allow pricing to be low, 1 is purchase power allowing the seller to sell lower because they bought lower. The other is skimping on quality parts, not saying its necessarily unsafe but fit and finish will probably lack, accuracy will probably suffer as well.

I did a transfer for a customer who bought an Arfcom AR15 and it was in the 550 range complete. It was noticeably cheap in every way. (Don't confuse inexpensive with cheap).

I wouldn't buy arfcom anything, however, they have gunstruction, and Mike @blackforge has a rad giveaway going on with them and I want to enter haha.

I have the blackhawk kit also. It was $30 and it shows, very rough.

Try CMMG, or go to ironworks tactical and get a basic LPK with an ALG trigger from Brett

I have a Rock River Arms kit also, seems much better initially, we'll see more when it all comes together. I got the RRA one pretty cheap.

Not all of their uppers are junk... Their chf barreled uppers are very high quality. Psa uppers are made by various mil contractors. Look at the engraving on the upper itself. The barrel is made by FN USA.

I'm talking about the lower priced items. I have no need in buying a complete upper as I just build them myself. I just won't buy the PSA or PTAC brand stuff because I myself and a few people I know have had negative experiences.

I bought a PSA LPK to go with my complete upper and stripped PSA lower.. I ditched the trigger that came with the PSA lower kit kit in favor of Geissele SSA-E trigger. I couldn't be happier with my choice.

Oh, I thought you were referring to PSA in general. For the price of some of their stuff its hard to beat. Like the chf uppers. MAYBE their stainless barreled uppers. Rainier actually has some decent prices on barrels.

Rainier has great barrels. I don't mind PSA but I just won't buy their brands lol
