I find it hilarious that you think that ice making noise on your truck is Toyota's fault.

If it's a Tacoma specific issue, it would be their fault. Attitudes like that gets anybody that isn't a fanboy looking elsewhere...

Just took my new 2014 TRD DC OR with (mud flaps) in for the same issue under the driver's side floorboards and wheel well. I've been driving in snow and 0-14 degree temps for the past week. Toyota Tech drove and heard issue, raised it up and found ice attached/caked to frame and around frame mounts up and behind the mud flaps.....he chipped it all off and apparently this is what was causing all the noises on mine. Now that the ice is gone, no more creaking/knocking/popping under my floorboards and wheel wells. Hopefully this helps a few of you guys out.

Are people really going to the dealer for ice building up in the wheel wells ?

It's not in the wheel wells, it in places you don't see unless you crawl under and know where to look. But the noise it makes will make you think something is broken.

Or, you guys can go to a car wash and powerwash the ice out from under the truck. They use heated water so it will be quick. You should be hosing off your undercarriage anyways (if you don't get it undercoated)

I'm not doing that when it's -10 before the wind chill.

Doesn't get it all, and I'm definitely not spraying my truck with water when it's 7° out.

The sound it makes really makes it seem like something is busted.

This stuff has happened to vehicles for years. All you have to do is spray it off like others have said.

Now you're saying you won't do it even though you said earlier in the thread that you do and it doesn't fix it. Something here doesn't make sense...

You're from Texas. Have you ever even seen snow?

I haven't lived in Texas for the almost a year and a half now.

I've lived in New Mexico and Missouri since then and have seen snow in both places.

So yes, I have seen snow. I find it funny that you say that when my picture in my signature is my truck on a snowy road

You call that little dusting snow? When you see 2 feet of lake effect snow for three days in a row, then we'll talk.

Here's what you need to know about this issue:

    - It is annoying on a biblical scale
    - It is not easily corrected
    - When corrected, it just happens again the next day
    - It does not happen to most vehicles

    I love people's ignorance haha

First off it doesn't matter how much snow you've got. If it's on the road it will get thrown onto your vehicle causing these "devastating" effects on your vehicle.

Second, one picture of snow doesn't mean I haven't seen more snow. Thanks for giving me an excuse to post pictures though.

And third, it sounds to me that you're either too lazy to fix the problem yourself. Or just like to blame others. Move South if it's such an issue.

It does happen to other vehicles. I've ridden in cars that make the same noises you're describing as well as my truck was making the noises every time I turned. Now that I washed the undercarriage of my truck the noise is gone.

#1 You don't even have a 2nd gen, so I don't even know why you think you have to comment.

#2 It does matter how much snow you get. When we only get a little, it doesn't happen, but when we get dumped on, it happens every time.

#3 Let's see how ambitious you are to chip the ice away every day in freezing cold weather. You must not have much of a life.

#4 I would rather gargle with Drano than move south.

#5 I've owned 30+ vehicles in my life, always lived in this climate, and this has never happened to me until I got my 2013 Taco.

To sum it up, you don't live in an area where this even would be an issue, and you don't even have the same truck, so stop acting like an expert.

Haha I'm not going to bother answering each one. But it's hilarious because that's my point. You make it into a big deal and say that it only happens to your year model Tacomas. That is why I posted in here to say that it doesn't happen to only your year model Tacoma. It happens to my truck every time we get freezing rain or snow as well as other vehicles I have ridden in ;)

Good for you, have fun cleaning it out.

And I said it didn't happen to my '05 or '09. I said nothing about a 1st gen.

This is the first time it has happened to any vehicle I have owned. And I have owned this truck since 08 in colorado. Before I was in the army I lived in Massachusetts for 19 years. Never had anything like this happen before. I had to get it checked out by the dealership first before I went with anything people who don't work for a dealership said.
The noise was bad and I didn't want it to be broken and not treat it like it was. The dealer checked it out at no charge. Now that I know what it is I can do something about it then next time it happens.
It just weird cause in the 5 years I have owned this truck and all the snow bashing I have done, this is the first time it's happened.
