Truly amazed how efficient this site is, I know it's going to have a big makeover here soon and I didn't think I would miss this version at all until I needed to PM upwards of 350 people regarding a group buy.

    My task:
350+ PM's sent without ruining my weekend

    Cons:
    8 people max per PM
List original format included numbers, punctuation, misspelling and spaces

    Pros:
    Mouse
    TW tools
    Excel

Basically I first had to get all usernames on the list on equal ground. Meaning they needed to not have any characters in front. Thank you excel!!! A quick google helped me find a way to remove characters in groups instead of each cell individually. =RIGHT(A1,LEN(A1)-1)

I'm not going to go over the rest of cleaning up the list, but if you are going to do a list I strongly recommend from the get go you only record user names, and if possible full name. (via pm)

My biggest weapon: I was able to program my mouse buttons.

Now I was a little worried when copying my list in that people wouldn't receive their pm. but this was amazing, thanks TW. If a username was invalid it told me, and I was able to use a tool to find it.

Lots of copy and pasting, about 25 minutes of work later all messages had been sent.

If it wasn't for the 15 second time gap I probably would have been done in 20! :p

we're upgrading the forum software soon.

i'll work on enhanced pm'ing tools for the new setup so it'll be easier to do the Excel wizardry you performed for this GB

    It is.

    Check out www.tundras.com
That's Bob's other forum and the direction that TW will go.

    Maybe even better....

Create a separate secured thread with admission is by invite-only.
There's a few good uses for that, group buys being probably one of most likely to be used.
Moderator approval required to prevent "bash threads"
Keeps the PM boxes cleaner and makes distributing information to the target group easier.

    I was a mod at MSN " autotechs on line " for years and years 1991 - 2010 .
In 2010 , MSN shut all their groups down . We were at 94,000 members . I will check out the Tundra site and hit you up with some opinions .
Are they asking for cash at the new site ?

I wouldn't worry about it too much. This site wasn't always as capable as it is today. Through requests for fixes and enhancements it became what it is today. tcBob is pretty good at getting stuff like that enhanced. Hard settings like limits to the number of PM addressees is probably a quick fix. If it allows the capability to pm multiple people, there's probably a setting or minor code change that will fix it. The limit is probably in place to protect against spamming.
